More Detail:
In Mr. Nick Broomfield’s documentary on HEIDI FLEISS: HOLLYWOOD MADAME, his aim is at Heidi the person, and not on her sensationalized client list. The documentary takes a while to get to Heidi who is in drug rehabilitation before her trial, so Mr. Broomfield looks for those with a current or previous connection to her. He talks to prostitutes, Heidi’s first boss Madam Alex, her off-again, on-again lover Ivan Nagy, her once best friend Victoria Sellers and other out-of-sorts. In all the interviews, everyone has a story to tell. Mr. Broomfield hands out $100 bills in fact for people to speak. They all appear to be self-delusional. But these interviews are not enough to provide for an insightful, incisive and informative narration of the Hollywood Madame.
The flimsy documentation is made more tragic by a lack of moral bearings. The pathetic and pathological profiles are devoid of conscience. Heidi herself admits to her arrest and sentencing as hard on her and cannot believe “it really happened.” Mr. Broomfield shows sympathy to Heidi’s predicament. Heidi Fleiss has been sentenced to three years for pandering and can face up to four years for federal tax evasion. The documentary, in tandem with its topic, exposes prostitution, lesbianism, pornography, sexual deviations, abuse, violence, drugs, bootlegging, greed, corruption and bribery – it is a dark world of lost and unsaved souls.
