"Purge This Movie from Your Must-See Checklist"
What You Need To Know:
The laughs are very few and far between in MEET THE BLACKS. There’s little structure to the plot or the dialogue. The movie also has abundant foul language, lots of brutal deaths placed in a phony comical context containing some crude references. MEET THE BLACKS is an unacceptable, poorly made attempt at humorous entertainment. MOVIEGUIDE® remembers a time when comedy spoofs like this were really funny, though sometimes too crude. That time is long gone.
(PaPaPa, C, B, PCPC, Acap, LLL, VVV, S, N, A, DD, MM) Very strong, slightly mixed pagan worldview with a couple positive references and appeals to God and Jesus such as man says “God is good” after something positive happens, plus some politically correct content with a couple jokes about Republicans and consumer capitalism, and the KKK becomes involved at one point; at least 285 obscenities (including many “f,” “s” and “b” words), 13 strong profanities and eight light profanities, plus an obscene gesture, some “n” words and at least six obscenities during a song over the end credits; some strong and very strong violence in a comical context with some gore and blood includes people shot and stabbed and threatened with death and dismemberment, plus car explodes and sets man on fire; some crude references to sex and self-abuse and teenage boy in underwear climbs onto teenage girlfriend’s bed and wants sex, but nothing is shown to happen or suggested to happen though it’s implied they have fornicated when girl was living in Chicago; upper male nudity and some female cleavage; brief alcohol use; no smoking but marijuana use depicted and protagonist has stash of marijuana he apparently stole from drug dealer’s house when dealer was arrested; and, dysfunctional family, teenage girl keeps boyfriend hiding in her bedroom from parents, boy pretends he’s a vampire, racist neighbors are rebuked, president is shown preparing to get involved in criminal purge activities during purge night.
MEET THE BLACKS is a spoof of THE PURGE horror movies where an African American family moves to a Beverly Hills mansion from Chicago thinking they can escape the “purge” night where the law allows any kind of criminal activity to take place, with no threat of jail or police. The laughs are few and far between in MEET THE BLACKS, the plot and dialogue sleep inducing and cringe-worthy, and the content extremely crude and offensive, though not as sexually explicit as some other comedy spoofs these days.
Carl Black, an African American home wiring expert, moves his family out of Chicago, managing to snag a Beverly Hills mansion. Narrating the story, Carl has stolen piles of money and marijuana from a local drug dealer who’s been arrested. He thinks moving his family to wealthy Beverly Hills will protect him and his family from the coming purge night, where the law allows any criminal activity to occur, with no threat of police arrest or jail time.
However, when Carl’s Chicago creditors and his neighbors start to attack them, Carl and his family must figure out a way to survive.
The laughs are very few and far between in MEET THE BLACKS. There’s little structure to the plot or the dialogue. The movie also has abundant foul language, lots of brutal deaths placed in a phony comical context and some crude references. There are a couple positive comments about God and Christianity, but MEET THE BLACKS is an unacceptable, poorly made attempt at humorous entertainment.
