A HAUNTED HOUSE

"Raunchy Satire of Almost Everything"

What You Need To Know:

A HAUNTED HOUSE stars veteran parody comic Marlon Wayans. He plays Malcolm, a young successful black yuppie who invites his girlfriend, Kisha, to live with him. Unknown to Malcolm, Kisha once made a deal with a demon to buy a pair of designer shoes. Now, she’s brought that demonic spirit with her, and it starts to terrorize them and ruin their lives. When Kisha becomes possessed, Malcolm turns to a prison priest, a goofy homosexual psychic and an assorted group of stupid ghostbusters for help.

A HAUNTED HOUSE is a scattershot, lewd satire of haunted house movies, particularly the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY series. As such, plot and character development are less important. Sadly, it’s a non-stop barrage of lowbrow, often extremely raunchy, humor, with an occasional clever joke or scene. Also, one of the characters is a Christian exorcist who became a priest in prison and who drinks too much, swears, hides drugs, and leers at women. Foul language, drug references, and graphic lewd content abound in A HAUNTED HOUSE. There’s also some explicit nudity. Media-wise viewers will want to avoid A HAUNTED HOUSE.

More Detail:

A HAUNTED HOUSE is a rapid-fire, scattershot, extremely lewd satire of haunted house movies, particularly the PARANORMAL ACTIVITY series. A HAUNTED HOUSE features a hyperactive pagan worldview that also pokes fun at Christianity through the character of a Roman Catholic exorcist who became a priest in prison and who drinks too much, swears sporadically, hides drugs, and leers at women.

The movie stars veteran parodist Marlon Wayans (SCARY MOVIE, WHITE CHICKS, LITTLE MAN) as Malcolm, a young successful black yuppie who invites his girlfriend, Kisha, to live with him. Unknown to Malcolm, Kisha once made a deal with a demon to afford a pair of designer shoes. Now, she’s brought that demonic spirit with her, and it starts to terrorize them and ruin their lives. When Kisha becomes possessed, Malcolm turns to a drunken former priest, a goofy homosexual psychic, and an assorted group of stupid ghostbusters for help.

Since the movie is satirizing other movies that don’t depend on plot or character development, there isn’t much of those qualities in A HAUNTED HOUSE, either. Instead, it’s a non-stop barrage of lowbrow, often extremely raunchy, humor, with an occasional clever joke or scene. As noted in the content section, A HAUNTED HOUSE abounds with sexual and drug-related humor. For example, the homosexual psychic crudely tries to seduce Malcolm. Also, at one point the invisible demon smokes marijuana with Malcolm and Kisha.

A HAUNTED HOUSE uses the occult and ghosts, as well as devices like Ouija boards, for humor. Worst of all is a Roman Catholic exorcist who arrives to help cast out the demon, but is constantly drinking alcohol, leering at the woman and occasionally using obscenities. He also hides drugs in his Bible and a crucifix. Eventually, he snorts his cocaine with another person. Only Cedric the Entertainer’s silly performance mitigates the offensive nature of this content. Of course, everything comes under attack in A HAUNTED HOUSE, so the movie also mocks the occult and the homosexual psychic. Despite all its off-putting sexual and scatological humor, A HAUNTED HOUSE is clearly meant to be just goofy.

That said, A HAUNTED HOUSE is absolutely abhorrent and inappropriate for children and teenagers. Also, the raunchy humor will repel media-wise adults, and the average moviegoer.
