"Obscene Alcoholic Hijinks"
What You Need To Know:
Up to a point, making fun of the stereotypical drinking habits of Americans, Germans, English hooligans, and the Irish can provide a few laughs. This movie, however, adds all kinds of extremely crude sex jokes, many shots of half-naked women, repeated scenes of fornication, and plenty of strong obscenities. Such obscene content is truly abhorrent and ultimately dangerous. Not only does it pollute the culture, it also degrades the minds and spirits of all who see it.
(PaPaPa, Ho, AP, Ab, Cap, LLL, VV, SSS, NN, AAA, DD, MM) Very strong pagan worldview with the main goals being revenge, sex, drinking alcohol, and winning a crazy drinking competition, plus a few homosexual references, some negative American stereotypes or anti-American content but there are also negative stereotypes of other nationalities, anti-Christian content where man acts like a mean mobster but turns out to be a pastor at a funeral (played as a joke), and lightly positive capitalist content where two protagonists are part of their family's restaurant business and they start their own brewery; at least 90 obscenities, four strong profanities, 12 light profanities, vomiting, men drink ram urine to prepare for heavy drinking contests, belching after drinking beer, and man mentions making something out of dog feces; strong comedic violence such as pratfalls, drunken pratfalls, fighting and punching, it is implied that naked man spent a drunken night chasing, killing and partially eating a deer, man drowns in vat of beer, implied shootings, and people hit with objects; an excessive amount of crude sexual content includes scenes of depicted fornication, crude references to masturbation, male and female prostitution, sadomasochism, sodomy, incest, and fornication, man in S&M outfit tries to grab other men in two scenes, and man with video camera encourages two women to kiss but they are splattered with beer before they do; a significant number of shots of upper female nudity and some rear and upper male nudity; excessive alcohol use, including chugging alcohol, much drunkenness in a series of drinking contests and training for drinking contests; references to smoking marijuana; and, revenge, some false accusations, name-calling, and general hooliganism.
BEERFEST is just about what you would expect from a comedy like this. It follows in the footsteps of the trend-setting comedy ANIMAL HOUSE, starring the legendary John Belushi, but it has a lot more foul language, sex and nudity. That kind of content, of course, is a new trend started by more recent obscene comedies like AMERICAN PIE and THERE’S SOMETHING ABOUT MARY.
In the story, two American brothers, Jan and Todd, go to Munich, Germany during Oktoberfest to deliver their late grandfather’s ashes to the family resting place. They immediately get into trouble. Then, the man their great grandmother told them to meet takes them to Beerfest, a secret underground drinking competition featuring the kind of drinking games that many people play when they start drinking heavily in college.
The grandfather of the winning German team tells Jan and Todd that their great grandmother was a prostitute, and, years ago, she and their grandfather stole his family’s famous beer recipe. Supposedly, the beer used to be the greatest tasting beer in all of Germany.
Insulted, Jan and Todd challenge two of the German grandsons to a drinking contest. They badly lose and return to America with their tails between their legs.
Seeking revenge against the Germans, Jan and Todd decide to gather together their old college drinking buddies. They inspire their buddies to train for a year so they can bring an American team back to next year’s Beerfest and beat the Germans. All sorts of crude obstacles are placed in their way.
BEERFEST is from the irreverent comedy group known as Broken Lizard. The idea for the movie grew out of a spontaneous drinking contest the group had with some Australians at a beer festival Down Under. Making fun of the stereotypical drinking habits of Americans, Germans, English hooligans, Australians, and (lest we forget) the Irish can provide a few honest laughs – to a point. The movie, however, adds all kinds of extremely crude sex jokes, many shots of half-naked women, repeated scenes of fornication, and plenty of strong obscenities. Just so you know, the end credits proclaim proudly, “Coming soon – POTFEST.”
Such content is truly abhorrent and ultimately dangerous. Not only does it pollute the culture, it also degrades the minds and spirits of all who see it. A good argument also can be made that such extremely crude humor is one of the reasons so many Neo-Islamic fascists want to murder Americans. It all makes one pine for the “innocent” hijinks of ANIMAL HOUSE.
