INCARNATE

What You Need To Know:

INCARNATE is a small horror movie about an irreligious man who evicts demons (or “entities” as he calls them) that have possessed people. Dr. Seth Amber has the ability to get inside the victim’s mind to evict the demon. The Vatican asks Amber to handle the case of an 11-year-old boy who may be possessed by the demon who killed Amber’s own wife and son. However, separating the demon from the boy proves to be more difficult than Dr. Amber thought.

Supernatural horror movies like INCARNATE are meant to be creepy and spooky, and INCARNATE is just that. It’s a bit more heroic than some of the other low-budget horror movies about demon possession. Aaron Eckhart does a good job playing the protagonist. However, by the end, INCARNATE succumbs to some of the same old tired clichés found in other horror movies like this one. Also, the demon’s able to trick the good guys in the end and stop them from destroying it, even though the hero frees the little boy from the demon. INCARNATE also has some strong, gratuitous foul language.

More Detail:

INCARNATE is a small horror movie about an irreligious man who evicts demons (or “entities” as he calls them) that have possessed people and who encounters a boy possessed by the demon that killed his wife and son. INCARNATE is a bit more heroic than other scary movies about demonic possession, but it has some strong foul language, and the demon tricks the good guys in the end.

The movie opens with the boy, Cameron, getting possessed by the demon when it decides to leave the body of a homeless woman who’s snuck into the boy’s home. Once possessed by the demon, Cameron snaps the woman’s neck.

Cut to Dr. Seth Amber, who’s in a wheelchair, a situation caused by a demon-possessed woman who drove head on into the car carrying Dr. Amber and his wife and child. Dr. Amber’s assistants medically bring him near death so he can enter a possessed person’s mind and convince the person to separate from the demon. After saving a middle-aged man that way, Dr. Amber is approached by a Vatican official asking for his help in treating Cameron.

Dr. Amber doesn’t want to take the case until the official tells him the Vatican thinks the demon attacking Cameron may be the same one that crippled Dr. Amber and killed his family. Dr. Amber has named the demon “Maggie.”

Dr. Amber takes the case when he finds evidence they’re right. However, separating the demon from Cameron proves to be more difficult than he thought.

However, by the end, INCARNATE succumbs to some of the old tired clichés found in horror movies like this one. Also, although the movie doesn’t overtly attack Christian methods of exorcism or make the Vatican official look stupid, Dr. Amber thinks Christian methods are ineffective. Also, the demon is able to trick the good guys in the end and stop them from destroying it, even though the hero frees the little boy from the demon. INCARNATE also has some strong, gratuitous foul language.
