VEIL OF TEARS

"God’s Love Overcomes Prejudice"

What You Need To Know:

VEIL OF TEARS is a powerful documentary exploring the horrific abuse and ill treatment women face in India. Whether it’s in highly populated cities like New Dehli and Mumbai or rural villages, women are being treated not only as inferior, but also as less than human. The documentary goes through several regions and cities. It uncovers wicked traditional practices that still take place in the worlds largest democratically run country. One of the greatest of the evils and the stem of most of their problems is the caste system. In India, people are separated economically and culturally by class, the Dalit being at the bottom and seen as worthless.

VEIL OF TEARS is a perfect example that true change doesn’t happen through democracy, but through the Gospel of Jesus Christ’s love penetrating the hearts and minds of every day people. This love found in the Bible is the true message of human equality that will help build healthy, happy and prosperous nations that will change the world. A light caution is advised for the serious subject matter in VEIL OF TEARS.

More Detail:

VEIL OF TEARS is a powerful documentary exploring the horrific abuse and ill treatment women face in India.

It begins by retelling the history of the Taj Mahal, one of India’s most treasured landmarks. In 1623, emperor Shah Jahan in a period of prosperity was grief stricken when his third wife died during childbirth. So saddened, Jahan decided to build his late wife the greatest tomb in the world. It took 22 years before the compound was completed. Still standing today, it has long been a symbol for the love one man had for his wife. That love, though, is no longer represented is in the culture of India.

Whether it’s in highly populated cities like New Dehli and Mumbai or rural villages, women are being treated not only as inferior, but also as less than human. The documentary goes through several regions and cities and uncovers wicked traditional practices that still take place in the world largest democratically run country.

One of the greatest of the evils and the stem of most of their problems is the caste system, in which the people are separated economically and culturally by class, the Dalit being at the bottom, seen as worthless. Growing from a fatalistic worldview in a male dominant country, many women are subject to horrible conditions that include gang rape and beatings. Bride and widow burnings, though illegal are still a common occurrence and young boys and girls are sold into slavery because their parents can no longer afford to feed them. Laws have been passed to stop such practices, but to no avail. The one thing that’s making a difference is the Gospel of Jesus Christ, touching the hearts of families and giving them hope.

VEIL OF TEARS makes America’s problems look pale in comparison. Powerfully demonstrating the need for the gospel, the movie shows both a great need for help and a great hope in Jesus. Needing a bit more structure, the movie could have had more narrative focus instead of jumping from one geographical location to the next. Also, the music gets a little repetitive.

Clearly showing the power of the gospel, VEIL OF TEARS is a perfect example that true change doesn’t happen through democracy, but through the Gospel penetrating the hearts and minds of every day people. Like the story of the Taj Mahal, women long for a symbol of a king who loves his bride more than his kingdom. Millions are finding that love in Christ, and many men are standing up and declaring that women are to be loved just as Christ loved the church. This love found in the Bible is the true message of human equality that will help build healthy, happy, and prosperous nations that will change the world.

A caution is advised for the heavy subject material and some disturbing images.
