What You Need To Know:
Like many of the recent Madea movies, A MADEA HOMECOMING contains extremely silly humor, and the characters are goofy. The movie has some positive pro-family themes, but it’s marred by more than 200 obscenities and many lewd references and jokes about sex. Also, A MADEA HOMECOMING has a strong Romantic worldview where all the characters follow their hearts rather than God or biblical truth. For example, the grandson comes out to his family as homosexual, and other characters enjoy using marijuana, including eating pot-laced sweets.
Content:
Strong Romantic worldview of following your heart no matter what, with a strong politically correct, homosexual subplot about a young man who comes out to his family as homosexual, and the other characters say it’s not a surprise and that they have known about him ever since he was a child, mitigated by some positive moral, pro-family themes about loving your family, marriage, and taking care of one another plus some positive Christian references, but sometimes mixed in with some humor (for example, an older woman jokes that she prefers the liquor store next to her church)
More than 200 obscenities (including at least 10 “f” words) and about 20 light profanities, plus references to passing gas
Man puts gas on a fire and accidentally lights himself on fire, men punch one another during a fight, and
Many lewd sexual references and jokes, including references to and jokes about anal sex, oral sex, sleeping around, bestiality, working at a strip club, and even pedophilia, plus a young man comes out to his family as homosexual, and they say they love him anyway
No nudity
Some drinking
No smoking but there is marijuana smoking, eating of pot-laced brownies, and a character gets high; and,
Lying, deceit, dysfunctional family issues (such as dealing with the aftermath of a divorce).
More Detail:
Madea’s great grandson, Tim, is graduating from college, and the whole family comes to her house to celebrate. Tim and his best friend, Davi, are headed to Madea’s house, and Tim tells Davi he has a secret to reveal to the family. Knowing that the family is loud, opinionated and belligerent, Tim is nervous what might happen when he reveals the secret.
The whole family starts arriving at the house, and Madea is a bit overwhelmed by the amount of people there. Unexpectedly, Davi’s family also shows up, including Aunt Agnes Brown. Now, Madea must learn to get along with Aunt Agnes, who’s an opinionated Irish person who is misunderstood almost as much as Madea is misunderstood.
That isn’t the only surprise, as Tim’s father shows up to Madea’s house as well. Tim’s mother, Laura, isn’t happy about that because Tim’s father took almost everything in their divorce.
Secrets are revealed and the family fights, but will they be able to come together again and love each other in the midst of their differences?
TYLER PERRY’S A MADEA HOMECOMING follows the same comedy and patterns as the other Madea movies. The movie contains extremely silly humor, and the characters are goofy. The movie pushes the edge, though, as the main characters are men dressed as women, Tyler Perry playing Madea and Brendan O’Carroll playing Agnes Brown.
TYLER PERRY’S A MADEA HOMECOMING has some positive pro-family themes, but it’s marred by more than 200 obscenities and many lewd references and jokes about sex. Also, A MADEA HOMECOMING has a strong Romantic worldview where all the characters follow their hearts rather than God or biblical truth. For example, the grandson comes out to his family as homosexual, and other characters enjoy using marijuana, including eating pot-laced sweets. Media-wise families will find TYLER PERRY’S A MADEA HOMECOMING to be unacceptable and even abhorrent.
