What You Need To Know:
THE WATCH has some funny, exciting moments, but the fun is greatly diminished by lots of offensive content. For instance, the foul language and sexual comments are nearly constant. In one scene, two of the guys stumble on a neighborhood orgy. The strong crude comedy in THE WATCH is mitigated slightly by some moral, pro-family elements. Otherwise, however, THE WATCH is excessively offensive and unacceptable. Media-wise moviegoers will want to avoid THE WATCH.

(PaPa, B, Ho, LLL, VVV, SS, NN, AA, DD, MM) Strong, slightly mixed, pagan worldview with a lot of crude hijinks, mitigated by some moral, pro-family elements (including protecting the neighborhood, protecting one’s family, and stopping some evil aliens and their armada from outer space that’s intent on killing all Earth people), plus one or two offhand homosexual jokes; at least 149 obscenities (including many “f” words), 14 strong profanities, 9 light profanities, a couple obscene gestures, and other vulgar language, plus man urinates into a beer can; very strong graphic violence when man attacked and his blood splatters onto window set in store’s outer back door, cow explodes, aliens wounded and their blood is green, large explosion, gunfights, man impaled by alien claw, aliens can be killed by body-piercing shots to their groin where it’s explained their brains are located, alien flings half a human body at men, men celebrate with alien’s dead corpse, etc.; two shots of depicted fornication when two men stumble upon neighborhood orgy, implied self-abuse as three men at orgy stand around talking about mundane topic, character at orgy has a sadomasochistic chain leash, man dances with dead alien’s corpse while placing his hand on its rear and even kissing its mouth, men burst on man’s wife in a seductive pose as her husband comes home, man tries to kiss other man’s wife, teenage boy tries to seduce teenage girl in bedroom but father intervenes in time, and many verbal sexual references and jokes such as a couple to oral sex and crude comparisons are made to alien goo and male semen; two shots of upper female nudity and some shots of upper male nudity; alcohol use and drunkenness; no smoking but one or two references to marijuana; and, bragging, men enjoy using alien weapon to blow up private property, taunting, teenage party not fully rebuked, men in stationary car drink beer so cop gives them a ticket, men celebrate having killed an alien with its corpse (including taking trophy photos), man keeps truth of his sterility from wife anxious to have a baby, but other man convinces him to tell her the truth and he does.

THE WATCH has a funny basic storyline, but the story comes with abundant, nearly constant foul language and other offensive content, including gratuitous sex and nudity, that’s unacceptable for moviegoers of any age.
Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn star in THE WATCH. Stiller plays civic-minded Evan Troutwig, the local Costco manager in Glenview, Ohio. The Costco security guard’s body is found torn apart, with his skin missing. So, Evan decides to form a neighborhood watch group, partly to track down the murderer.
Only three other guys show up for the meeting Evan arranges: party-minded family man Bob (Vaughn), overly zealous and creepy Franklin, and a weird, recently divorced guy from England, Jamarcus. Evan is a bit of a control freak, but he immediately has problems trying to control this rowdy bunch.
The comedy surges into high gear when these four mismatched goofballs discover that the murderer is an alien from outer space. The alien leads a small group that’s building a transmitter under the Costco, to signal an alien armada coming to destroy all Earthlings. Evan’s neighborhood watch group is the only thing standing in their way. Too bad for Earth! Or, is it?

Also, at one point, Evan and Jamarcus run into a local orgy run by Evan’s new creepy neighbor, Paul. In that scene, the movie shows two couples fornicating. It also implies that three guys are just standing around masturbating while they discuss mundane matters. A quick moment of very gory violence occurs early when the unseen alien monster murders the security guard.
The strong pagan comedy in THE WATCH is mitigated slightly by some moral, pro-family elements. For example, Evan truly cares about his community and his wife. Also, Vince Vaughn’s character, Bob, cares about his wife and daughter. Otherwise, however, MOVIEGUIDE® considers THE WATCH excessive and unacceptable viewing. Media-wise parents and families will agree, so moviegoers should find something better to do for their weekend entertainment.
