More Detail:

DIE MOMMIE DIE! is a spoof of 1950s and 1960s soap opera movies, sometimes called, in a denigrating, unnecessary fashion, “women’s pictures.” This material has been the subject of spoofing from Hollywood before, but this time, the heroine is played by a man dressed like a woman, with explicit sexual innuendoes.

Charles Busch stars as faded pop singer Angela Arden who’s having troubles with her marriage to a fading movie mogul, Sol P. Sussman. Sol seems to have the hots for their daughter Edith, and Angela’s relationship with her homosexual son, Lance, also seems a tad too close. Meanwhile, Angela is having an affair with actor Tony Parker, played by Jason Priestly. When Angela secretly puts poison into Sol’s suppository, Edith and Lance join forces to try to murder mom, whose untalented twin sister also died mysteriously.

The purpose of having a man in drag play Angela seems totally lost here, although Charles Busch is known for such perverse shenanigans. Even more offensive, however, are the many vulgar, explicit sexual innuendoes that pepper the movie, including the movie’s suggestions of incest and the lewd sexual affairs between Angela’s gigolo Tony and her daughter and her son. Nothing more really needs to be said about how abhorrent and inane this movie is. Only the color photography stands out in this dung heap of cinematic excess, which might have been funny were it not for the R-rated vulgarity.
