HARLEY’S HILL

Watch:

What You Need To Know:

HARLEY’S HILL opens with a horse trainer pushing a horse named Harley too hard to become a great show horse. Harley gets spooked and has to be withdrawn from the competition. He escapes to run wild until he finds a remote ranch where little Sarah lives with her father, brothers and ranch hands. Sarah nurses Harley back to health. Sarah is trained by her aunt to show the horse. When she does, someone recognizes Harley and tells his owner. The owner takes Harley, and Sarah is devastated. Will the girl get her horse?

HARLEY’S HILL is a delightful, pre-teen story of a girl who’s alienated on a ranch that has no mother and no hopes. The horse is her answer to prayer. She learns how to be responsible and learns to appreciate the ranch. There’s nothing objectionable in this movie. There’s some references to God’s creation and to real prayer. The movie is well-paced and interesting, although much of it is a visual portrait of Harley as he roams the hills looking for his new home. In other words, HARLEY’S HILL will appeal mostly to children who love animals.

More Detail:

HARLEY’S HILL is a beautifully filmed, lyrical story about a high-tempered show horse, who finds a home that will take care of him and care for him.

The movie opens with a horse trainer pushing Harley to become a great show horse. The trainer couldn’t care less about anything than winning. Harley gets spooked and has to be withdrawn from the competition. In the midst of all the confusion, Harley’s corral is not shut properly. He escapes to run wild in the mountains of California.

Eventually, Harley finds a remote ranch where little Sarah, played by MOVIEGUIDE(r) Grace Award winner Kristin Dorn, lives with her father, brothers and ranch hands. Sarah falls in love with Harley and nurses him back to health. Her father, however, says a ranch is no place for a high-spirited show horse.

So, Sarah is trained by her aunt to show the horse. When she does enter a local show, someone recognizes Harley and tells his owner. The owner comes to get Harley, and Sarah is devastated. Will the girl get her horse?

On the positive side of the equation, there’s some references to God’s creation and to real prayer. The movie is well-paced and interesting, although much of it is a visual portrait of Harley as he roams the hills looking for his new home.

In other words, HARLEY’S HILL is very lyrical and will appeal mostly to children who love animals.
