What You Need To Know:

GONE is the kind of crime thriller that should make women afraid to be alone in public or private. It tells the story of Jill, a girl who escaped a serial killer but was unable to convince the police the ordeal she suffered was real. When the sister who lives with her goes missing, she believes the serial killer is back at work. Jill fails to convince the police that her sister is in danger. So, she tries on her own to try to save her sister.

The suspense in GONE is riveting. It plays like a police drama with a civilian doing the detective work while the police do their best to hinder her. If you’re an adrenaline addict, this movie may give you your fix. However, the average moviegoer should ask, “What’s entertaining about girls being gagged with duct tape, thrown down a hole, and left to die?” That said, GONE is rated PG-13. So, it’s more suspenseful than horrific. There are flashbacks of Jill being abducted, gagged, bound, and threatened. There’s also some strong violence and foul language, but GONE avoids being gruesome. Nevertheless, strong caution is advised.

More Detail:

GONE is the kind of crime thriller that should make women afraid to be alone in public or private. This serial killer hunt is heavy on suspense, moderate on bad language, and light on police credibility.

GONE tells the story of, Jill (played by Amanda Seyfried), a girl who escaped a serial killer but was unable to convince the police the ordeal she suffered was real. When the sister who lives with her goes missing, Jill is convinced the serial killer is back at work. She fails to convince the police her sister is in danger. So, she strikes off on her own to try to save her sister.

The suspense in GONE is riveting. Most of the movie plays like a police drama with a civilian doing the detective work while the police do their best to hinder her. Throughout the movie, Jill looks like such a small girl to be taking on such a dangerous task alone.

If you’re an adrenaline addict, this movie may give you your fix. However, the average moviegoer should ask, “What’s so entertaining about girls being gagged with duct tape, thrown down a hole dug in the forest, and left to die?”

This is the kind of movie that makes America look like an awful place to live. Warped murderers roam the streets looking for helpless female victims and the police are too inept to do anything about it. Yes, there are such people, but GONE is far from the first movie about serial killers. There are more movies made featuring women threatened by serial killers than there are movies that tell the true story of women like Leigh Anne Tuohy who stopped a murderer from continuing his killing spree by preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ to him. Like other serial killer movies, GONE will do mediocre business while Christian movies like THE BLIND SIDE are a huge box office success.

GONE is rated PG-13. So, it’s much more suspenseful than horrific. There are some flashbacks of Jill being abducted, gagged, bound, and threatened. There’s also some strong violence and foul language, but given its horrid subject, it’s not gruesome. Nevertheless, MOVIEGUIDE® recommends strong or extreme caution for GONE.
