Jet Li plays a martial arts master who goes about fighting government soldiers under the name of a famous rebel. In a completely different area, the real rebel fighter is a young woman with incredible fighting skills. She stumbles on another young woman fleeing the government because she bears the child of the emperor. She saves the other young woman and the baby from some royal guards. They flee into the desert to evade the government. What ensues is a giant desert fight between treasure seeking rebels and the tyrannical government’s forces.

THE FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE is a spectacular IMAX 3D movie. The story moves slowly at times, but is highly entertaining overall. It picks up speed in an action packed climax. FLYING SWORDS has a mixed pagan worldview with some positive moral themes. MOVIEGUIDE® advises extreme caution for some strong action violence and the mixed worldview in FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE.

Content:

More Detail:

In the Asian epic THE FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE, the two governments that rule the land are run by tyrannical kings who only want money and power. Martial arts master Chow Wai On, played by Jet Li, is an outlaw who goes about helping those oppressed by the government. He does all of this under the name of Hua Tian.

In a different area, a group of peasants are traveling down the river by boat. The local guards pull them ashore for an inspection. Little do they know is that a young woman by the name of Jade is on board. Jade is a royal concubine who secretly carries the child of the emperor, a secret that could cost her life. She tries to get rid of any evidence that would link her to the emperor, but it’s too late, she’s discovered. With orders to kill the baby, the guards get ready to stab her when out of nowhere a masked outlaw comes in and fights the soldiers. The stranger says she’s Hua Tian, the same name of the other vigilante.

Meanwhile, in the middle of the desert at an inn, a group of marauders meet. They seek an ancient city with innumerable treasures that was buried by a sandstorm. Hua Tian, Jade, and Chow Wai, and a legion of royal soldiers are all headed toward the same inn to take shelter from a giant sandstorm. What takes place is a giant fight between the rebels and the evil soldiers. The rebels must choose between wealth and life or fighting for what’s right and possibly face death.

THE FLYING SWORDS OF DRAGON GATE is a spectacular IMAX 3D adventure. The story is slow in the second half, but picks up speed in an action packed climax. There is a brief moment where pagan idols in a temple are visible, and there is a mention to “the afterlife.” However, most of the movie promotes moral themes such as defending the weak and being content with what you have rather than being greedy.

MOVIEGUIDE advises extreme caution because of the violence, the mixed worldview, and some light foul language.
