Watch:

What You Need To Know:

TO JOEY WITH LOVE chronicles the lives of award winning country artists Rory and Joey Feek. After a whirlwind romance and wedding, they began touring around the country together. They sold millions of albums and were at the peak of their career when they decided to take a year off, simplify their lives and prepare for the birth of their first baby, Indiana. Soon after Indiana’s birth, they found out she had Down’s Syndrome. Three months after hearing this news, Joey is told she has cervical cancer. After winning this battle, Joey suffers another health crisis.

TO JOEY WITH LOVE is a powerful, emotionally charged documentary. It beautifully illustrates the love between two people and the unconditional love of God. The movie leaves viewers with an urgency to live everyday as if it is a gift, thank God for what He has given, and enjoy the simple moments of life. It also demonstrates the importance of prayer. A relatively clean movie, TO JOEY WITH LOVE warrants caution for younger children because of Joey’s cancer diagnosis and references to giving birth at home.

Content:

(CCC, BBB, M) Very strong Christian worldview that God is in control and Christians should trust God despite their circumstances, plus prayer is promoted, as is being grateful for God’s provision; no foul language, but some scatological content includes one scene with the sound of a baby passing gas, “leaving a big load” in her diaper and pooping on the potty; no violence; no sexual content except images of husband and wife kissing; no nudity; no alcohol use; no smoking or illegal drug content; some dysfunctional family portrayals, and an implication of an earlier divorce.

More Detail:

TO JOEY WITH LOVE chronicles the lives of award winning country artists Rory and Joey Feek. It’s a powerful, inspiring documentary.

The documentary begins in 2014 when Rory began filming important moments of their lives on camera. Joey, an aspiring Country artist, moved to Nashville in the hopes of jumpstarting her career. At the Bluebird Café, a famous restaurant in Nashville, Tennessee, Joey met Rory, an equally budding artist. It was then that Joey knew she would spend her life with Rory.

After a whirlwind romance and wedding short time later, they began to tour around the country. They sold millions of albums and were at the peak of their career when they decided to take a year off, simplify their lives and prepare for the birth of their first baby, Indiana. Soon after Indiana’s birth, they found out she had Down’s Syndrome. Three months after hearing this news, Joey is told she had cervical cancer. After having surgery to remove the mass, she was cancer free.

The documentary continues with their building of a barn behind their home so they can perform concerts while still being at home. A few months after Indiana’s one year birthday, Rory worked on the production of a movie inspired by one of his songs. Soon after, Joey began not feeling well, suffering abdominal pain and excessive weight loss. Soon she was diagnosed with a large mass behind her bladder and cervix, requiring surgery and chemotherapy. Those familiar with their story know that Joey tragically did not survive. Even though the cancer took Joey’s life, it could not rob Rory of his love for his wife or for God.

TO JOEY WITH LOVE is a powerful, emotionally charged documentary. It beautifully illustrates not only the love between two people, but also the unconditional love of God. With only two scenes of “bathroom humor” and no nudity, alcohol or drug use, the movie encourages viewers to call on God in times of trouble and He will wrap His loving arms around you. It also demonstrates the importance of prayer and being grateful to God for His provision.

Despite its clean content, scenes of a woman preparing to give birth and the emotional nature of Joey’s cancer diagnosis warrant caution for younger children.
