THE QUEEN - 6/1/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
+2 Moderately questionable elements.
THE QUEEN is an illuminating, fascinating glimpse into the rarified world of the British royalty that tells what happens when Britain learns of the tragic sudden death of Princess Diana in a car accident. With a very strong moral worldview with very strong references to God, THE QUEEN is a rare movie that works on all levels and is fascinating to watch.

Disney+ - 6/26/2020

TARZAN - 6/26/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
Walt Disney Pictures' TARZAN is the first animated feature to focus on the legendary jungle hero. Using a "deep canvas," 3-D effect where Tarzan swings, skids and flips through the jungle as the camera zooms in and around the landscape, this mostly moral story has some mild action violence and some political correctness which calls for parents to spend a media-wise moment with their children if they allow their children see it.

Hulu - 6/27/2020

OCTOBER SKY - 6/1/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
Based on a true story, the movie tells how a West Virginia teenager named Homer in 1957 starts building home-made rockets with his friends so that they can eventually win a prize at the state science fair. Homer's father is the major obstacle the "rocket boys" face in their goal to escape the confined world of their mining hometown. The movie's pro-family, moral worldview is marred by more than 30 obscenities and one line of dialogue about teenage premarital sex that is not rebuked.

MR. BEAN'S HOLIDAY - 6/19/2020

Quality:
***
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
MR. BEAN’S HOLIDAY stars Rowan Atkinson in the title role in a G-rated pastiche of many sight gags where Mr. Bean has to safely return a stranded boy to his father, who’s attending the Cannes Film Festival. The hilarious ending and some of Mr. Atkinson’s more inspired comic bits make up for the story’s slower parts, but Mr. Bean sometimes acts like a naughty, self-absorbed child, so MOVIEGUIDE® advises caution for younger children.

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE - GHOST PROTOCOL - 6/27/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – GHOST PROTOCOL is a very entertaining espionage action thriller starring Tom Cruise where the Impossible Missions Force must go off the grid in order to stop a madman intent on starting nuclear war. Caution is advised because of the intense action violence and some foul language, but GHOST PROTOCOL is a fairly clean, first-rate action adventure with a strong moral, patriotic worldview.

HBO Max - 6/6/2020

A CINDERELLA STORY - 6/1/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
+3 Some minor questionable elements. (Media-wisdom is suggested to discuss.)
A CINDERELLA STORY STARS Hilary Duff in a modern re-telling of the Cinderella fairy tale. Wonderfully written and entertaining, A CINDERELLA STORY gets better and better as it goes along and extols all the cardinal Christian virtues in a positive, winsome, attractive way.

Content:

WONDER - 6/1/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
WONDER is a family drama about Auggie, a young boy with a facial deformity who’s entering school for the first time after being homeschooled by his mother. The movie looks at Auggie’s first year in school from his perspective and the perspective of those around him. WONDER is a terrifically empathetic, uplifting movie that will bring tears of joy, but there’s brief, mostly light foul language.

SECONDHAND LIONS - 6/1/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
SECONDHAND LIONS, set mostly in the 1950s, stars Haley Joel Osment, Michael Caine, and Robert Duvall in a story about a young boy left in the care of his two irascible, cantankerous great-uncles. With help from his talented cast, writer and director Tim McCanlies has crafted a heartwarming, exciting, humorous, and ultimately uplifting tale for older children, teenagers, and adults, but the movie contains many light obscenities and a Romantic element.

PATCH ADAMS - 6/1/2020

Quality:
***
Content:
+1 Moderately questionable elements. (Discernment required for young children.)
Laughter is the best medicine. At least, that is what medical student Patch Adams believes. Based on a real story and featuring Robin Williams, PATCH ADAMS provides lots of love and warmth, and champions Christ-like attitudes and behaviors in challenging modern medical treatment and impersonal institutes of medicine. It is only flawed by obscenity use and some minor production problems.

BLACK BEAUTY - 6/1/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
+3 Some minor questionable elements. (Media-wisdom is suggested to discuss.)
BLACK BEAUTY is a beautiful, touching and timeless rendition of the classic story by Anna Sewell told through the eyes of the horse and through voice-over narration and flashback. Wonderfully photographed, scripted and acted, this film is destined to become a family classic on its own.

AD ASTRA - 6/6/2020

Quality:
****
Content:
-1 Caution advised for older children, including teenagers, and sensitive adults.
AD ASTRA follows astronaut Roy McBride as he is missioned to uncover the truth behind his father’s disappearance 30 years ago that’s now threatening the safety of the solar system. AD ASTRA captures the audience from beginning to end and contains many positive Christian, biblical elements, but has some strong foul language, some disturbing images and violence. MOVIEGUIDE®, therefore, advises strong or extreme caution, depending on the viewer’s sensitivity to such material.
