Kirk Cameron and Stars of GROWING PAINS Reunite for Show’s 35-Year Anniversary

By Allyson Vannatta, Senior Writer

The hit sitcom GROWING PAINS debuted 35 years ago, and the cast of the show had a virtual reunion to share their memories.

The popular series ran from 1985 to 1992, airing 166 episodes and making the on-screen family just as close off screen.

The reunion happened exclusively with Entertainment Tonight and reunited Kirk Cameron, Joanna Kern, Tracey Gold, and Jeremy Miller.

“It’s unbelievable, unimaginable,” Gold said of how long it’s been since the premiere. “And yet it feels like yesterday in so many ways.”

Cameron added that it “Always felt like I was coming to my second family when we were on the set.”

The cast also remembered their former co-star Alan Thicke, who died in December 2016.

Kerns said, “We’re just missing Alan. He always had us laughing, had me laughing. He was one of the most charming men I’d ever met. I think I was a little old for him…But we became really good friends. I saw him a week before he passed.”

“It’s been years now and I still reach for the phone occasionally, just thinking, ‘I haven’t talked to Alan in a while and want to say hi,’” Miller said of Thicke. “He was a huge part of our lives.”

Cameron detailed how Thicke would give him advice on how to talk to girls. One of those girls just so happened to be Cameron’s now-wife of 29 years, Chelsea Noble, who he met on the set of the show.

“Well, I knew that I had to talk to Chelsea before he talked to Chelsea (laughs). And I’m really glad that I did.” He added, “It worked out really well for me personally, and here we are 29 years later with six kids.”

Gold even commented on when the young Leonardo DiCaprio joined the cast for the last season.

“I just thought he was so sweet and so cute,” she said. He “Was just so happy to be on set with us.”

And those talks of a re-boot? The cast laughed about potential ideas and what the show might be called if it happened.
