THE CHOSEN: Episode 2.2: I Saw You

In the “I Saw You” episode of THE CHOSEN, tensions between the disciples grow, Nathaniel is recruited to join the disciples, and word travels about Jesus’ healing abilities. “I Saw You” is extremely inspirational and spiritual. Positive Christian messages about forgiveness of sins, empathy, prayer, scripture, and hope are present throughout the episode. The episode’s content serves as a reminder that, with Jesus, we aren’t defined by past mistakes, but instead made new again through His forgiveness.

The episode begins as Philip rejoins the disciples at their camp and introduces himself to Matthew and Simon. Matthew tells Philip about his past life as a tax collector. To Matthew’s surprise, Philip treats him with kindness. Philip explains he also had a past life full of mistakes before Jesus, but after meeting the Messiah he has been saved.

Matthew asks Philip to teach him Scripture from the Old Testament so that he has more knowledge. Although Philip has given Matthew a chance, Simon still resents Matthew for working with the Romans as a tax collector.

Nathaniel struggles with his purpose in life after his plans to build synagogues are destroyed. He visits a man who tells him that his former self is dead. Nathaniel sits under a fig tree and cries out to God to reveal himself to Nathaniel. After Nathaniel gets no response, he burns the blueprints of the synagogues he designed and hides away.

Philip asks Jesus if he can stop during their travels and visit his friend Nathaniel. Philip tells Nathaniel that Jesus is the Messiah and that Nathaniel should meet him. When introducing himself to Nathaniel, Jesus calls him the truth teller. In complete shock, Nathaniel asks Jesus how he knows so much about him. Jesus tells Nathaniel that he saw him under the fig tree, and Nathaniel breaks down in tears. Jesus tells him that, if he wants to make an impact around the world, he should join His disciples.

As the word of Jesus travels throughout the land, many people begin waiting to be healed and his fame grows exponentially. At the end of the episode, Andrew and Simon Peter run out to tell Jesus that many visitors have heard about him and are lined up to meet him.

The episode “I Saw You” is extremely inspirational and spiritual. Moreover, the costumes, acting and sets are incredible. Paras Patel makes the perfect Matthew, and Jonathan Roumie does an amazing job portraying the traits and characteristics that Jesus embodies. The sets and costumes replicate the time period and help the viewer understand the New Testament story to its fullest. Overall, THE CHOSEN does a phenomenal job retelling the story of Jesus and the disciples.

The series THE CHOSEN is based on the events of the four gospels in the New Testament. Positive Christian messages about forgiveness of sins, empathy, prayer, scripture, and hope are present throughout the “I Saw You” episode. For example, a man shows empathy towards Nathaniel, the disciples recite the Hebrew Scriptures, and Nathaniel prays to God for guidance. Also, Jesus explains to Simon Peter to be patient with his plan, Philip explains to Matthew that through Jesus our pasts and sins are forgiven, and Jesus tells Simon Peter to practice kindness toward Matthew. The content of this episode serves as an excellent reminder that, with Jesus, we aren’t defined by our past mistakes, but instead made new again through His forgiveness. This is especially true in this episode for Matthew and Nathaniel. There are no questionable elements in THE CHOSEN episode “I Saw You.”
