JOY’s Jennifer Lawrence Confirms Pregnancy with Husband Cooke Maroney

By Movieguide® Staff

Academy Award-winning actress Jennifer Lawrence, known for THE HUNGER GAMES and SILVER LININGS PLAYBOOK, announced that she is pregnant with her first child.

Lawrence, 31, married husband Cooke Maroney in Oct. 2019 and confirmed the news to PEOPLE magazine.

While on Catt Sadler’s Podcast, NAKED WITH CATT SADLER, Lawrence shared the simple reason she knew that Maroney was the one.

“[He is] the greatest human being I’ve ever met,” she said in June 2019. “He really is, and he gets better.”

Lawrence added that her decision to build their relationship “started with the basics: ‘How do I feel? Is he nice? Is he kind?'” she said. “It’s just — this is the one, I know that sounds really stupid but he’s just, he’s — you know. He’s the greatest person I’ve ever met, so I feel very honored to become a Maroney.”

Lawrence also starred in the 2015 movie JOY, which won Movieguide®’s Faith & Freedom Award for Promoting Positive American Values in Movies at the annual Movieguide® Award Gala.

A portion of the review reads

JOY is a true story about the invention of the Miracle Mop. Joy is a divorced mother struggling to provide for her children and her mother and grandmother. Encouraged by her grandmother but not her own mother or father, who are divorced, Joy invents a new kind of mop to help ease the burden of housewives everywhere. With nothing but a big dream, courage and perseverance, Joy must overcome many obstacles to get her mop to market. Some of those obstacles involve her dysfunctional father while others involve her business partners.

JOY is a delightful movie about one woman trying to use her God-given talents to fulfill her dreams and meet her family responsibilities. Using a funky wardrobe and a great pop soundtrack, Writer/Director David O. Russell creates his most appealing movie yet, using his chosen cast of Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. JOY has a very strong moral, pro-capitalist worldview with strong Christian references. As such, it’s one of the best movies to open recently during Christmas. That said, JOY warrants caution because of brief foul language and some dysfunctional behavior.

In 2007, Lawrence attended the Movieguide® Awards Gala to present an award.

Movieguide® previously reported

Each year, Movieguide® hosts an annual gala to honor movies and industry leaders who prioritize faith and family in Hollywood. As we prepare for our 2020 Gala, we want to reflect on our past events and remember the people and movies that made them successful.

Today, we’re honoring Jennifer Lawrence.

Lawrence presented an award at the 2007 Movieguide® Awards. Lawrence was starring in THE BILL ENGVALL SHOW at the time, but later went to to appear in other nominated movies, including JOY.

Though Lawrence was raised in a Christian home, she has since drifted from the faith and starred in movies that do not support family-friendly values.

Movieguide® penned an open letter about Lawrence’s anti-biblical remarks.
