Matthew West And Candace Cameron Bure Team Up For GAC Christmas Theme

By Movieguide® Contributor

Christian artist Matthew West is teaming up with actress Candace Cameron Bure for a new Christmas movie this holiday season.

West recently wrote a song called “Come Home for Christmas.” He played the song for Bure, who was looking for a theme song for another holiday movie she was working on.

“Candace was working on a new movie for the Great American Family Network, and she texted me, and she’s like, ‘I want a song for the movie,’ and I said, ‘Well, I can send you this,’” West shared

“She heard it, and she’s like, ‘I love this song so much. I want to send it to the head of the network.’ She sent the song to the head of the network and lo and behold, the song wasn’t right for the movie, but the head of the network said, ‘We want this to be the theme of our whole network for the holidays,” the singer continued.

The pair ended up collaborating on a different song for Bure’s Christmas movie “that fit the theme better.”

Movieguide® previously reported on Bure’s partnership with Great American Family Network:

While Candace Cameron Bure is known for her work in Hallmark Channel Christmas movies, she is now taking her Christmas career to Bill Abbott’s Great American Family network, working both in front of the cameras and as an executive.

Now, after racking in 30 Hallmark movie credits, Bure has decided to bring her Christmas career to Great American Family.

Abbott, who began Great American Family after leaving the Hallmark Channel in 2020, believes that Bure “understands what the audience likes and what the audience doesn’t like, and that understanding for us is so critical to our success.”

Her first venture for Great American Family is one of their upcoming Christmas movies, A CHRISTMAS…PRESENT. Bure will star in and executive produce the movie, which will premiere in November.

Bure explains, “‘A Christmas… Present’ is about slowing down enough to recognize what’s right in front of our eyes. The hustle and bustle of the Christmas season will arrive before we know it but it’s through the quiet moments that we hear God speak to us, directing our path to what’s most important.”

West and Bure have been friends since 2011, when she starred in a movie called THE HEART OF CHRISTMAS. The movie was inspired by a song West wrote about a St. Jude’s patient.

“I actually got to be on set with Candace years ago making this little movie…they even put me in the movie,” West laughed. “I played the part of the friendly neighbor, and I don’t want to brag, but I’m pretty sure I knocked it out of the park.”

This isn’t the only Christmas project West has in the works. The singer is also getting ready to host “Come Home for Christmas,” a live music event.

“We had this idea of building an event in Nashville where we could invite people who would watch those virtual concerts to come to my city and have a Christmas weekend with us, and we decided we’ll call it Come Home for Christmas,” West explained. “In early December, we’re going to have about 400 people descend upon Nashville, and we’re going have a special Christmas celebration weekend together. No more virtual, but in person.”
