John Rich Highlights America’s Cultural Divide in Hit Song ‘I’m Offended’

By Movieguide® Contributor

Country music star John Rich just released “I’m Offended,” a satiric ballad highlighting America’s cultural divide and inability to “take a joke.”

“It doesn’t matter if you’re right, left or in the middle,” Rich said. “Everything’s offensive all the time. I mean, nobody can take a joke anymore.”

“I look around our country, and I don’t see anything funny going on at all. It doesn’t matter where you look. It’s just more bad news and more bad news,” Rich said. “So I thought, you know what America needs right now? They need something funny.

“They need something to come out that they can laugh with and put a grin on their face,” he continued. “So I was kind of looking at our culture these days, and I’m guilty of it, too, that everybody’s offended at something all the time.”

Part of the song goes:

And I’m offended, you’re offended

Let’s all get offended tonight

Now hang on just a minute

Can’t amend the first amendment

You’re offended I defend it all the time

“I’m Offended” is one track on Rich’s latest album, “The Country Truth.”

“‘The Country Truth’ is a record full of songs I’ve written from the honest and unapologetic perspective of a patriotic American man living through one of the most tumultuous times in history,” he shared in a press release, per Music Mayhem.

“This collection of songs will make you laugh, cry and ponder where we’ve been, where we are today, and where we’re going,” Rich added.

This is not the first time the country star has gotten attention for an anti-woke hit. Last year, his song “Progress” went number one on iTunes. “Progress” also points out flaws Rich sees in culture, criticizing leftist ideologies.

“I just got a song that speaks to a lot of people,” Rich said about the song’s success.

Movieguide® recently reported on Rich’s concerns about free speech:

Country singer John Rich responded to big tech’s purge of conservative voices from media. Rich noted how media platforms “muzzled” his and fellow country stars’ media accounts.

“The list of country artists calling me is growing by the day who are saying they’re being ‘muzzled’ by the industry when it comes to them expressing their frustration and anger about the targeting of conservatives, and suppression of free speech by the powers that be. #BlackBall,” the Big & Rich singer wrote on Twitter.
