Texans QB CJ Stroud Relies on Faith After Playoff Loss: ‘Lean on [God]’

The Houston Texans lost to the Baltimore Ravens last Saturday, but Texans quarterback CJ Stroud is thanking God for the opportunity to lead his team.

His leadership on the field landed the Texans in their first playoff game since the 2019 season.

Despite missing the chance to play in the Super Bowl, Stroud said he’s relying on his faith and gave God the glory for his success this season.

“It’s what I lean on through thick and thin,” he said of his faith. “I know I’m upset right now, but I’m really just blessed looking back on this year, this opportunity we had today to play in front of millions of people. I’m just really grateful to God on all the opportunities He’s blessed me with.”

“I’m just gonna lean on Him, and I know that this isn’t the end for me,” he added. “It’s a lot of more football for me to play, and I’m just excited for that. And I’m super blessed with the guys who I lined up with every week this year. And I’m just really thankful to God on how much He’s brought me from – I can go all the way to when I was a kid to college to Week 1 to now. I’ve grown as a person and as a man of God in a lot of different ways. I’m just really blessed for that.”

Stroud is also open about his faith on social media.

In November, he posted Psalm 107:1, which reads, “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good, for his steadfast love endures forever!”

Before the game against the Ravens, the quarterback shared a series of photos with the caption, “BLESSED.”

Movieguide® also reported on Stroud’s faith after the win against the Bengals, which improved the Ravens to 5-4 in the regular season.

“For me it’s a lot of prayer and knowing that God wouldn’t put anything on me that I can’t handle,” he began. “I don’t deserve His grace and His mercy, but He still gives it to me, and I love Him for that. It’s not about me. It’s about Him and His glory. I think that’s where it comes from, I think God made me like that. Not only in football but also in things that make me kind of chill when everything is going crazy. And I thank God for putting that on me.”

Per Sports Spectrum, Stroud said of his career, “I couldn’t be up here—I couldn’t do anything on that field—without my Lord and Savior.”

“He’s given me a sense of peace even when everything around me is going crazy,” the quarterback continued.
