Alan Ritchson: God Created Us to ‘Do Something Wonderful’

By Movieguide® Contributor

REACHER star Alan Ritchson is explaining how managing your time wisely can be an act of worship.

“We live in a world today where we’re up against a giant, a monster who’s trying to steal our precious time, where we have an opportunity in each moment to be our very best selves and to live out our highest callings and to do something great, even in small ways,” the actor said, referring to the smartphones and social media that can consume so much of our time. “If we don’t use each minute well in our day, how quickly the day becomes evil in a world full of drugs, pornography and electronic devices.”

Ritchson explained that when we don’t fill our hours with meaningful activity, we are not fulfilling God’s plan for us.

“We have to believe, as someone with faith, that God didn’t create us for no purpose,” he said. “God created us with the intention of seeing us do something wonderful, and we are fearfully and wonderfully made. We have power. We weren’t made to be timid and wasteful but to step forward into a day with great power.”

He continued, “God has prepared a moment for you, each and every day. We stand at a crossroads and say, ‘This is the path, this is the moment, this is the act of self-service, the act of self-care, the act of love, the act of self-restraint that God has for you.’”

“It’s real truth we’re after, and I believe that that begins with making the right choice, small choices, every day to win that battle, to find where the truth lies in your life and your relationship with Christ,” the actor concluded.

Ritchson often talks about his Christian faith and how it influences both his life and work as an actor.

“I want to be a part of stories like that,” he said of faith-based movies and TV shows. “People are hearing the name of Christ in movie theaters, and if that’s where the pulpit is for people who wouldn’t normally step foot in a church, then that’s still a great way to have that conversation…It matters that these films get supported.”

His most recent role in ORDINARY ANGELS sees Ritchson taking part in that support of moral content.

“This movie is so necessary and that’s why it’s a medium I love so much. It has the opportunity to be a loud megaphone and a call to action,” he told UPI. “Sometimes, it’s just important to escape into a popcorn film and a world that’s pure fiction. That is important, too, but I think we’re really living out our highest calling as storytellers when we find these stories that plant a seed and remind us what our potential is as human beings.”

A portion of the Movieguide® review for ORDINARY ANGELS reads:

ORDINARY ANGELS is a very exciting movie. It’s also extremely heartrending because it shows many people volunteering to help this little girl. Even the television station in the small community helps and asks people for prayer. Frankly, very few movies have so well integrated Christian faith, values and entertainment together like ORDINARY ANGELS. That said, MOVIEGUIDE® suggests light caution for younger children because of the mother’s death and moments where the little girl vomits blood.
