THE RINGS OF POWER Secures Third Season With Amazon MGM

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER will return for a third season as showrunners Patrick McKay and JD Payne have extended their deal with Amazon MGM Studios for three years.
Per Deadline, “McKay and Payne wrote and executive produced season one of the hit, Emmy-nominated Prime Video series, THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER which debuted in the fall of 2022. The series was the most-watch Amazon Original worldwide and debuted at No. 1 on the Nielsen streaming chart, remaining in the Top 4 throughout its initial run.”
THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER, Episode 1.8: “Alloyed” won Movieguide®’s Best Television for Mature Audiences award at the 2023 Movieguide® Awards.

Streaming on Amazon Prime, Episode Eight of RINGS OF POWER is very satisfying, heartfelt and entertaining. Brilliantly written, it captures many of the redemptive, moral themes in Tolkien’s LORD OF THE RINGS. While Season 2 has wrapped filming and will be released later this year, Amazon exec Vernon Sanders shared his enthusiasm for what’s next.

THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER is “set thousands of years before the events of J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings, and will take viewers back to an era in which great powers were forged, kingdoms rose to glory and fell to ruin, unlikely heroes were tested, hope hung by the finest of threads, and the greatest villain that ever flowed from Tolkien’s pen threatened to cover all the world in darkness,” a synopsis reads.

Production for the second season of THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE RINGS OF POWER is already underway, and some recent behind-the-scenes set pictures hinted at what fans can expect from the upcoming episodes.
The first season of RINGS OF POWER was filmed in New Zealand, but for the second season, production has shifted to Berkshire in the UK.
Photos of a constructed set show a detailed castle courtyard being constructed, including covered walkways, towers, and what appears to be a fountain.
Fans have hypothesized that this will mean the second season will take the characters to Lindon, the Elven region of LORD OF THE RINGS’ fictional land.
