Drinking Alcohol Can Drastically Shorten Your Life

People say “It’s five o’clock somewhere” to justify drinking alcohol at any time of the day, but that excuse could drastically shorten their lives.

“An average of just two drinks per week — bottles of beers, regular glasses of wine, or a couple of shots of liquor — across a lifetime can shorten one’s life by just three to six days,” The Daily Mail reported.

Just one drink per day takes two and a half months off a person’s life while consuming 35 drinks each week reduces life expectancy by about two years.

Last year, Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research scientist Dr. Tim Stockwell conducted a meta-analysis of over 4.8 million participants.

He found “no significant reductions in risk of all-cause mortality for drinkers who drank less than 25 g of ethanol per day (about 2 Canadian standard drinks compared with lifetime nondrinkers).”

“There was a significantly increased risk of all-cause mortality among female drinkers who drank 25 or more grams per day and among male drinkers who drank 45 or more grams per day,” his study added.

Any alcohol consumption results in an increased risk of cardiovascular disease.

A Harvard study found a “risk-increasing association between all amounts of alcohol consumption and both hypertension and coronary artery disease, with modest increases in risk with light alcohol intake and exponentially greater risk increases at higher levels of consumption.”

Not only can alcohol decrease life expectancy and harm one’s physical health, but it has ruined the lives of many.

Country singer Walker Hayes knows its devastating effects first-hand but has found redemption from his addiction through faith in God. Movieguide® reported:

“I am in an industry that can often condone that lifestyle,” the Grammy-nominated artist said. “It’s about drinking. And so I’m not trying to combat it or battle it or rid country music of that, but I also want to show people and just normal guys like me that there is an alternative.”

“And we can address when we have a problem,” Hayes continued. “And, honestly, our weakness can be our strength, you know? And that’s OK.”

To celebrate his eighth year of sobriety, Hayes released a new EP titled, “Sober Thoughts.”

The album details how he made it through the recovery process.

“I used to drink 24/7 so I didn’t have to have ‘sober thoughts.’ Nothing but grateful to be celebrating 8 years of sobriety with this new project, Same Drunk Tour and a collab with @athleticbrewing… Crank up the new tunes, I’ll see y’all on the road and I can’t wait for y’all to see what me and Athletic have been brewing,” he posted, celebrating the news of his new EP.
