CJ Stroud Gives Advice to Patriots QB Drake Maye After First 1st Career Start

Drake Maye got his first professional start for the New England Patriots.

Fellow Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud gave Maye a piece of advice prior to the match-up between the Texans and Patriots.

“Yeah, I gave him a little word, you know, tried to give him a little word of encouragement,” Stroud revealed to NBC’s Phil Perry. “I thought he played really solid, you know. Definitely feel like he’ll get better and better as he keeps going.”

“Just be yourself, you know,” Stroud continued. “Everything that got you here will take care of where you want to go, and really just trust yourself. Trust that you’ll eventually figure it out.

“You’ll have bad days. You’ll have good days,” Stroud added. “There’s days where you’ll look at yourself like, man, I’m the worst quarterback in the world, but it’s always about getting up the next day and keep going. So I would just tell him that and I told him how much I believed in him and I hope to see him do well in this league.”

According to Bleacher Report, Maye “finished 20-of-33 for 243 yards and three touchdowns, adding another 38 yards on five rush attempts. He also threw two interceptions and was sacked four times, losing a fumble in the third quarter.”

On the flip side, Stroud “completed 64.5 percent of his throws against New England on Sunday, recording 192 passing yards and three touchdowns to go along with an interception. He’s helped the Texans start the year with a 5-1 record, good enough for the top spot in the AFC South.”

One of the best things about Stroud this season is his relentlessness to always share his faith despite what the world might think.

Houston Texans quarterback CJ Stroud starts each game with prayer.

“Just a lot of prayer, a lot of worship, or listen to a lot of gospel [music] and just talk to my teammates, make sure we’re on the same page,” he told JJ Watt of how he prepares for a big game.

He continued, “And really just, you know, stay confident and just relax and understand that, you know, I prepared the right way, and now it’s time to play ball.”
