By Movieguide® Contributor

Few things compare to cozying up to watch the latest episode of SULIVAN’S CROSSING, a CW drama that has quickly become a cult classic. Fans gush over the deep characters, natural scenery, and romantic, complicated storylines. Here are a few behind-the-scenes secrets you may not know about this beloved show!

Breathtaking Location

While the cast enjoys filming SULLIVAN’S CROSSING, they delight in the beautiful location even more. Nova Scotia is the stunning backdrop for the beloved drama series. From the showrunner to the actors, the cast and crew seem to gush about the location.

‘To ensure the show would feel distinctive from [Carr’s] other adaptation… I decided to set it in Nova Scotia,’ Roma Roth said. “Having been born and raised in Canada, it’s always been a personal goal of mine to create and write a Canadian content show that would reach a global audience.”

Actor Chad Michael Murray also spoke to the press about how much he enjoys working on the set of SULLIVAN’S CROSSING.

“It’s the greatest, genuinely,” Michael Murray shared. ‘The scenery is stunning and it’s like, “Why not surround yourself with kind, loving people and beautiful scenery and picturesque landscapes?”

Chad Michael Murray Taps Into His Character

Chad Micheal Murray portrays Cal Jones, Maggie’s potential love interest. The actor revealed that it isn’t a far stretch for him to embody the character as he feels like he and Cal have much in common.

“Cal is just a piece of my own playbook,” Micheal Murray said. ‘I don’t do well in large crowds … It’s an overload of the senses and I can’t handle it. So, for Cal, a lot of that backstory is planted in wanting to be alone. It’s a little bit of where Cal’s introverted and mysterious things come from. Even though we don’t know that much about why he is the way he is, we’ll come to find out more as we peel the onion.’

He also opened up about the growth and evolution of Cal from season to season, along with plugging the series.

“[The show] is a journey with real people in real situations,” he shared. ‘It’s grounded television in the drama genre that’s feel good TV. If you’re looking for a show, where you’re going to find someone you can identify with, this is the show for you.'”

Chad Michael Murray Prioritizes Family

Chad Micheal Murray has been a fixture in Hollywood since his days on WB’s ONE TREE HILL. His early acting days consumed his life, which may have contributed to the divorce from his first wife and co-star, Sophia Bush. The actor has finally struck a balance between his work and family life.

These days, he’s married to Sarah Roamer and the dad of three children, which inspired him to focus on family-oriented shows like SULLIVAN’S CROSSING. ‘My priorities are completely different than they were when I was back on the WB,’ Micheal Murray said. “Now, my priorities are my wife and kids. I’m sure there’s a project that could come across my desk where it would make sense, but right now I’m not at a place where I want to [change it].”

Scott Patterson Identifies with His Character

Scott Patterson has definitely resonated with the character he portrays, Sully, in many ways. The former GILMORE GIRLS alum enjoys the challenge of digging deep into the SULLIVAN’S CROSSING scripts.

“If you’ve lived any kind of a life and if you’ve made any number of mistakes, you have a lexicon to draw from,” Patterson said. “It’s easy to sort of go back and get things you need, and this show just calls back all of those experiences. If I’m having any kind of trouble believing in the given circumstances, I can rely on that. There isn’t anything I’ve read in these scripts that I haven’t been through at one level or another.”

The actor appreciates that despite Sully’s ups and downs, fans support the character. “The pleasant surprise about this role — and also the thing that I feared the most — was the places I have to go on pretty much a daily basis to pull this off,” he concluded. It’s a real challenge every day, so that’s why it’s worth doing.”

Positive Effects on Economy

Not only do the cast and crew love the picturesque backdrop of SULLIVAN’S CROSSING, but locals are happy about the attention and economic changes the series has brought to the area. The filming of Sullivan’s Crossing has positively affected the economy in Nova Scotia and Ontario.

According to SCREEN NOVA SCOTIA

A new report released today by the Canadian Media Producers Association highlights significant economic benefits generated by the production of just one season of the hit Canadian drama series Sullivan’s Crossing. Production of the show, which took place in Nova Scotia and Ontario, generated $47.55 million in economic activity, contributed $33.83 million to the national GDP, and created 385 full-time equivalent jobs.
