Tubi and Kickstarter just inked a new deal that will bring 20 new crowdfunded films to Tubi.
The Verge reported that Tubi will also invest in Kickstarter’s FilmStream Collective Fund, “which is focused on providing emerging filmmakers with financial assistance to complete their projects. Tubi and Kickstarter also plan to pledge directly to 10 specific Kickstarter-funded movies, which will stream exclusively on Tubi for three months once they’re finished.”
Kickstarter CEO Everette Taylor said the partnership furthers the company’s mission to “help people bring their creative projects to life.”
“Fulfilling that mission means reaching beyond our core crowdfunding service finding aligned partners like Tubi who want to collaborate on reducing the barriers that stand in the way of creatives bringing their ideas to life,” he added. “Together, we’re building a new opportunity for filmmakers to share their work with global audiences and get the visibility they deserve.”
The news initially broke on June 12 when Kickstarter introduced the “FilmStream Collective, an initiative giving indie filmmakers the opportunity to access funding and guaranteed distribution on Tubi.”
Any filmmaker or production studio can “submit your project for consideration,” per Kickstarter.

All applicants have to do is launch “your Kickstarter film campaign anytime between now and August 31, 2025” and “apply for the FilmStream Collective Fund.”
If selected, filmmakers will get “a $10,000 pledge to your live Kickstarter campaign, the opportunity to have your film stream exclusively on Tubi this Fall for 3 months, and receive a split of the revenue generated by the viewership of your film on Tubi.”
A contestant must meet certain requirements, though: they “must launch a Feature-length film campaign on Kickstarter, must own full rights to the project and commit to a 3-month exclusive distribution on Tubi.”
“We’re excited to bring Kickstarter creatives and the communities who support them to Tubi’s audience of nearly 100 million viewers,” Anjali Sud, CEO at Tubi, said in a press release. “Tubi is becoming the home for the next generation of Hollywood talent. Whether we’re bringing crowd-funded films onto the platform, turning a Wattpad novel into a movie or putting the power to green-light in the hands of the fans – we are expanding the pathways for creators to grow their audience and adding greater diversity and differentiation to our content offering.”
While Tubi has yet to create a viral project, its partnership with Kickstarter and indie filmmakers could be its ticket to finding a hit flick.
