Frankie Muniz called filming the MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE reboot the “best time of my entire life.”
“I’m not exaggerating when I say filming this reboot, like I loved it so much, way more than I ever thought I could have,” Muniz said on the “Lightweights” podcast with Joe Vulpis. “We ended in May, and I haven’t talked to anybody since, you know what I mean? I’ve been gone. I’ve only been home, I think, for 12 days since the beginning of the year. I’m just always crazy, and I think next week, I’m going to have time. I’m going to reach out [to the rest of the cast].”
Muniz even teased what the fans should expect from the reboot.

“I think people will be surprised, in a sense, where everybody is and the story. But it’s only four episodes…It’s hard to fit in 20 years of stuff into four 30-minute episodes, right? But I think people are going to be very happy with what they came up with,” he shared.
The original show ran from 2006-2006.
The reboot follows “Malcolm and his daughter [who] are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal and Lois demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Christopher Masterson and Justin Berfield reprised their roles as Malcolm’s older brothers, Francis and Reese, respectively. Caleb Ellsworth-Clark took on the role of younger brother Dewey as the character’s original actor, Erik Per Sullivan, didn’t return for the reboot.
Aside from the reboot, Muniz stayed busy over the summer with his racing career in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series. However, a recent injury at home sidelined him.
“The phrase ‘FML’ (Frankie Muniz’s Life) takes on new meaning with moments like these,” Muniz wrote. “I’m disappointed to share that I won’t be racing at Darlington this weekend or for the next few weeks due to a distal radius fracture. Yesterday, I fell from the top of a ladder while changing the batteries in a Ring camera in my backyard. Note to self: heed the ladder warning that says, ‘Do not sit or stand on top step.’
“In hindsight, a taller ladder would’ve been smarter,” he added. “While I’m gutted to miss the races, I’m grateful it wasn’t worse. I feel for my team, who’ve poured their hearts into this season, and I’m thankful for @FordPerformance and their unwavering support. The doctor estimates a 6-8 week recovery, so I’ll be back in the driver’s seat as soon as I’m cleared.”
The MALCOLM IN THE MIDDLE: LIFE’S STILL UNFAIR reboot is set to air on Disney+ sometime in December. An official release date has not been announced.
