Student athlete-led organization Pitt Purpose held a major event at the University of Pittsburgh last week with amazing results as nearly 600 students heard the gospel and 65 people surrendered their lives to Jesus.
“Pitt for Jesus 2025 was nothing short of revival,” the organization said after the event. “People met God at the altar, many were set free, addictions were broken, and an entire university was touched in just one night! We declare that this will be the generation that turns back to God!”

The organization was founded by senior tight end Jake Overman and has quickly spread as multiple other football players lead the group, along with athletes across the campus.
“If God can touch a football team, then He could touch a campus. And if He could touch a campus, we think He could touch a city. If you could touch a city, we believe that He could touch a state…if He could touch a state, He could touch a country,” Overman told CBN News.
Overman is one of many young Americans who believe his generation is primed for revival and eager put Christ back at the center of our country. Amazingly, the Lord is moving through athletes using the platform their sport gives them to declare the gospel. Last year’s National Championship winning Ohio State football team, for example, kept their eyes on the Lord throughout their entire season. The team was so vocal about their faith that the broadcast commentators even brought it up.
“We hear a lot of times people talk about their faith, and people sort of dismiss it,” said ESPN’s Rece Davis. “These guys were sharing their faith and reaching out and baptizing guys on campus — not just football teammates. And it became something powerful to them, not because they thought it was going to be handed to them to win a game, but it developed, it changed their relationships, and it changed selfishness and made it go away. It was impactful for them. It didn’t mean they were going to guarantee they were going to win.”
Many pro athletes speak about how their faith keeps them grounded through the ups and down of sports. This has inspired many young athletes to take their faith seriously and find their identity in Christ rather than their athletic ability. It is truly remarkable to see the way faith is spreading in our country as the younger generation allows God to shape their hearts and minds.
