After a slow start to the 2024 NFL season, the Pittsburgh Steelers turned things around and found success on the back half, a feat that some of the athletes credit to their faith.

“I’m thankful for an organization that encourages us to invest not only in our football lives but also in our spiritual lives as well,” outside linebacker Alex Highsmith told THE 700 CLUB.

When asked what is “blowing through this organization,” Highsmith immediately pointed to God.

“I think a move of God is blowing through this organization. God is doing something deep,” he said. “Everything that He’s done for us trickles down into, you know, us as players.”

“A few of us who are technically the spiritual leaders on the team are able to just be a part of what God is doing,” he continued. “A lot of guys are showing up to Bible studies and the chapel; it’s just so cool and so awesome to see because we know that our purpose in life is to make disciples. And for us, we are football players, but ultimately, we know where our identity is.”

Dan Moore Jr., the Steelers offensive tackle, added, “When you talk about the NFL being not for long and just being in this organization, you’re able to come here and spiritually be free. You may meet someone here that you may cross paths with, and you may be spiritual brothers for the rest of your lives who instill some faith beliefs in Jesus Christ, maybe get you through some tough times in life.”

“I have brothers on this team that keep me accountable. We’re all following God. That’s our leader. But you need your brothers to keep you on a straight and narrow path. Sharing our experiences only emboldens the group. We all have different walks of life, but we’re all headed towards one thing,” Cam Heyward, the team’s defensive tackle, echoed.

The Steelers rounded out the 2024 season with a 10-7 record, falling short to the Baltimore Ravens during their Jan. 11 Wild Card game 14–28.

“The opportunity was there,” Heyward said after the game. “But our execution was not. That’s all I can think about right now.”
