HGTV’s Jenny Marrs reflected on a time when she had to learn to trust in God’s promises, even when it’s hard.

“We were like, ‘Okay let’s start a family now,’” Marrs told “Jesus Calling,” reflecting on her and husband Dave’s hope for children. “And then all of a sudden we realized, No, we can’t figure this one out. This is not working, something’s wrong. We can’t do this. We literally cannot do this.”

She explained that the couple saw fertility specialists and “did all the tests, and nobody could tell us what was wrong,” adding, “That was several years of walking through that.”

“I finally feel like I got to a point where I was like, Okay, what are You trying to teach me, Lord? Because I have to believe that You put desires in our heart,” Marrs explained. “There was a point where I understood, You put this desire on my heart and You’re walking me through this season of complete uncertainty, of complete desperation and reliance on You, and so what do I need to learn from this?

She shared her prayer: “Lord, even if. I don’t know what this looks like — maybe I won’t ever have children of my own — but I have to just trust that You are walking me through this for a purpose. You know that I’m gonna come out of it with a deeper faith, a deeper understanding, a deeper knowledge of Your mercy and Your grace and Your love for me.”

“I do believe that in that season, now looking back, I can see how He was just breaking down so many things that I had built over the years,” Marrs concluded. “This was the first time that I ever had to learn that, and He had to teach it to me in the way that He did or else I really truly don’t think I would have learned if I would’ve just gotten pregnant right away.”

Today, she and her husband Dave are parents to five — twin sons Nathan and Ben, adopted daughter Sylvie, daughter Charlotte, and son Luke.

In an Instagram post, Marrs celebrated her appearance on JESUS CALLING, writing, “My worn copy of @jesuscalling has been with me through so many seasons of my life. And, today, my episode on the Jesus Calling podcast is live and it feels like such a full circle moment.”

The FIXER TO FABULOUS star shares more of her faith in her latest book, Trust God, Love People.

“My hope is that it encourages people — especially those in a waiting season,” she said in an interview with Country Living. “I’ve prayed that whoever reads it feels hope, because I know how dark and hard and long those waiting seasons can feel.”

Marred continued, “Even if you’re not in a hard season right now, those seasons are still going to come. That’s just the reality of life. There’s joy and sorrow, often at the same time. But if you can create this act of remembering not just happy times, but the faithfulness of God that you’ve seen in your life, then when you’re in those harder, darker moments, you can look back and say, ‘I’ve been here before, and God proved faithful.’”

By sharing her story, Marrs provides encouragement and comfort to those who are going through hard times of their own, and relying on the promises of God.
