HGTV’s Dave and Jenny Marrs are revealing their sweet Christmas traditions, from family photos, to attending church together.

“We’re ready for this holiday season to rest a little bit,” Dave confessed to Swooon.

That’s no surprise — the Marrs’ are currently promoting the seventh season of FIXER TO FABULOUS, while Jenny just released new book, “Trust God, Love People.” The couple are more than ready to slow things down and enjoy some family time this holiday season.

“We go to church on Christmas Eve, we go to Dave’s parents,’” Jenny shared. “And then Christmas morning the kids wake up and come downstairs. They have to stop at the top of the stairs and take their picture. The teenagers love that! And then they all come down together, and we take turns opening gifts, one gift at a time, so we can all see what they got.”

Dave explained that he and Jenny have a “rule” that the family will “be at our home on Christmas morning” ever since they had kids, adding, “So, we don’t go anywhere.”

The Marrs family recently broke a family holiday tradition. Jenny shared on Instagram that the family decided to put up their Christmas decorations early this year.

“I’ve always been strictly in the no-decorating-before-Thanksgiving camp but our family collectively decided that, this year, we need holiday cheer and twinkling lights and stockings and the Hope of Christmas sooner,” Jenny wrote, referring to the losses of Dave’s mother and the family’s neighbors this year.

She continued, “All the firsts without the champion of Christmas herself: Dave’s mom. She is missed everyday but the first Christmas without her and the way she spearheaded Christmas cheer feels monumental and impossible. And, the first Christmas season without a mid-December pizza night and ridiculous over-the-top gifts from our neighbors’ Bob and Jill.”

“So, we decked the halls today. And the twinkling lights may not make our tender, weary hearts feel whole but they certainly don’t hurt,” Jenny concluded. “Our home feels like it’s smiling and that’s surely the start of something good.”

Jenny also recently shared her hopes for a “gentle Christmas,” writing on Instagram, “I have a new perspective this year, and yet, I can walk in this season gripping ever-tightly to the Hope. After all, we celebrate gentleness embodied – a baby born in humble circumstances who grew into a man who described himself as humble and gentle.”

“May this Christmas be a gentle, humble, and holy one,” she concluded.

While the Marrs family are navigating a Christmas without loved ones, they still have their beloved holiday traditions to take comfort in this season.
