Sight & Sound, the faith-based storytelling company known for its immersive stage productions, has revealed a first official look at its upcoming movie A GREAT AWAKENING. This movie is set to open in theaters nationwide on April 3, 2026, in honor of America’s 250th anniversary. The company is partnering with Roadside Attractions to bring this story to life.
According to the press release, “A GREAT AWAKENING tells the true story of an unlikely friendship that resulted in one of the most defining moments in American history. With the colonies on the brink of collapse, the Reverend George Whitefield sparks the first Great Awakening, uniting an entire generation with his thundering proclamation of liberty in Christ. In a miraculous turn of events, one of Whitefield’s closest friends and greatest promoters becomes none other than Benjamin Franklin.”
It added, “With the nation’s freedom hanging in the balance, Franklin discovers true liberty cannot only be written into law – it must be awakened in the hearts of the people.”
Director of the production Joshua Enck said in a statement, “We hope this film allows audiences to witness how ordinary people and an extraordinary God can steer the course of a nation. In a moment when the conversation around liberty is once again front and center, this story reminds us that a spiritual awakening helped prepare a nation long before independence was declared.”
Sight & Sound previously created the movie I HEARD THE BELLS. Enck told Movieguide, “The calling of Sight & Sound Films is to tell the stories of figures and events from history that change the world because Christ first changed them.”
“The heart of the story is that we’re not looking to just give people hope but want to give them a new kind of hope, the kind of hope that comes out of tragedy and crisis,” he said. “So many times in life, we think that when tragedy strikes our voice is then lost, and our calling is compromised. But that’s just not God’s economy. It’s because of the weathered storms, it’s because of the dents and the scratches, that we can actually ring out more loud and more deep.”
