Scott Foley says his latest role on Wonder Project’s IT’S NOT LIKE THAT is his “favorite kind of television.”
“What I really like are good character stories. And this is that — there’s no guns, there’s no aliens, it’s not raining acid — it’s just the human condition and it’s so interesting to me,” Foley, who plays Malcolm, a pastor and widowed father of three, told Parade.
He added, “IT’S NOT LIKE THAT is my favorite kind of story and it’s my favorite kind of television. It has strong characters and a story that’s well-written and well-told.”
Foley also serves as an executive producer on the show, saying he “loved the script so much” and believed in the show’s message so that he “wanted to have some sort of creative input.”

“This is a show that you can watch with your family — you can sit down with your kids and watch this show,” he continued. “And the great thing is that whether your kid is eight or 18, everyone who sits down and watches it will relate to a different storyline. And to be able to talk about those storylines as family — or amongst friends and family — is really important. And I miss that. I miss talking about TV, and I hope people do that with this show.”
IT’S NOT LIKE THAT follows Malcolm and friend Lori (Erinn Hayes) as they navigate their new single-parent statuses — Malcolm as a widower, and Lori, a divorcee.
“IT’S NOT LIKE THAT is a story about hope, and finding light after loss, rebuilding families and exhibiting grace in the most uncertain circumstances,” Ian Deitchman and Kristin Robinson, the show’s creators, executive producers and writers, said in a statement. “There is a powerful dynamic around what we all choose to hold onto when everything around us is falling apart, and how we find our way back — something we hope audiences will relate to and love.”
Hayes has also spoken about what drew her to IT’S NOT LIKE THAT.
“We are technically a faith-based show, but I think that the message is nothing other than kindness and compassion and meeting other people with grace,” the actress told Us Weekly. “That is [a message for] all humans.”
Hayes continued, “Our show tackles faith in a very real way. The conversations about faith and God occur with Malcolm and his family. They occur where they would occur in real life. It’s him talking to his kids and him talking about his own experience.”
The first four episodes of IT’S NOT LIKE THAT are currently available to stream on the Wonder Project’s Prime Video channel, with new episodes premiering every Sunday.
