Country star Marty Brown got to see his son, Christian Brown, audition for AMERICAN IDOL close up on Monday.

Christian, 22, sang his father’s song that he wrote about his love for his children, “Wildest Dreams,” The Christian Post reported.

“I’m going to be singing for my dad. It’s my way of telling him that I love him,” Christian said. “I would not be where I am today without him.”

Marty was popular in the ’90s. A few of his songs are “High and Dry” and “Make You Feel My Love.” He also co-wrote Tracy Byrd’s song “I’m from the Country.”

After Christian sang and played the guitar, Marty’s eyes brimmed with tears. “That’s my boy,” he said.

All of the judges liked the performance, guaranteeing Christian a spot at Hollywood Week.

“It’s got to make you proud to watch your boy do that,” judge Luke Bryan said. Marty replied, “It really does.”

In an interview, Christian said, “It is my favorite show, it really is. I mean, AMERICAN IDOL. That’s why I auditioned. You know, that’s why I even applied because I saw that and I was like, AMERICAN IDOL, I could be an AMERICAN IDOL.”

“I really, you know, I believed in myself. And the further I went into this after applying, I really built myself up and I really built up the confidence, and that’s what helped me make it to the audition,” he said.

The Franklin, Tennessee, resident says his dad is his “hero.”

“He really is, and he has raised me to be a very strong independent singer and a father,” Christian said.

He isn’t just singing for his dad, but also for his son.

“He is my rock, he is the reason why. He’s my inspiration to want to keep going with American Idol,” he said.

His son was born late last year. In December, Christian shared a video of him singing “When You Wish Upon a Star” for his baby, who seemed mesmerized by his dad’s voice.

“Love my little man! He’s gonna be a big Disney fan🏰✨ Thank you Disney for giving me such a wonderful childhood,” Christian said.

AMERICAN IDOL Hollywood Week In Music City – Part 1 kicks off on Monday, Feb. 23, PEOPLE reported. Unlike previous seasons, this part of the competition won’t take place in Hollywood. It’ll be in Nashville. Part 2 will be the following week, and then after that, it’s off to Hawaii for the Ohana Round.
