SURVIVOR host Jeff Probst has no plans to move on from the popular reality competition series.
“[I love it] more today than I did on day one,” he told PEOPLE. “I was so excited from the minute I got the job, but now I’m seeing it with more perspective — 25 years’ worth.”
Probst continued, “It’s a very simple format. A group is abandoned and must rely on each other while conspiring against each other. That’s the basic setup. But inside that little tiny box, there’s a universe of possibilities — trillions of galaxies inside that box. So I think the format is indestructible.”
SURVIVOR is currently celebrating its 50th season, and Probst acknowledged that there will come a time he has to leave the show.
“Hopefully, either I will know, or somebody I love will tell me, ‘It’s time for you to go. You’ve done what you can do, and we need some new ideas,’” he said. “I’m sure there are lots of fans going, ‘Dude, that happened a decade ago. Why are you still here?’”

Probst explained that a new host or showrunner would bring “a different perspective” and “different show” that fans of the franchise would enjoy.
The most important thing he thinks a potential new host needs? “You’ve got to find somebody who’s endlessly curious and fearless.”
In a conversation with Interview Magazine, Probst shared the lessons he’s learned from SURVIVOR.
“The goal for me is always the same. I’m trying to better understand who we are and why we behave the way we do,” he explained. “When you get 25 years of watching that, it can’t help but influence you in ways that aren’t necessarily something you can pinpoint.”
Probst continued, “One of the things that really struck me is that over the course of being a witness to the journeys of other people over 25 years, I was quietly shaping my own. It’s matured me in so many ways that I can’t separate SURVIVOR from my own life anymore.”
Probst has also shared his delight in the family-friendly aspects of SURVIVOR.
“I love that it’s become a family show,” he told Entertainment Weekly. “That was my number one goal, was to make this a positive show for families on Wednesday night that is safe and fun and inspires adventure. And I feel like we do that.”
New episodes of SURVIVOR’s 50th season are currently airing every Wednesday on CBS.
