Episode 12 of Season 13 of WHEN CALLS THE HEART delivers the same high production value that “Hearties” have grown to love over the seasons. The lived-in set design immerses viewers into the charm of Hope Valley while beloved actress Erin Krakow portrays Elizabeth Thornton with grace. The direction and pacing keep the multiple storylines flowing smoothly.
The entire town buzzes in preparation for the festival, and Elizabeth leads her students to reflect on abundance during times of loss. While the students are excited to participate in the festival by sharing their losses and gains, the children from Benson Hills are sad to leave the friends they’ve made while staying in Hope Valley. The class has bittersweet conversations about finding joy in challenges and counting their blessings. Even so, there are many tearful goodbyes awaiting.
Meanwhile, Nathan remains supportive and steadfast to Elizabeth, planning a romantic way to express his love and take his commitment to the next level, a challenge he mulls over with friends and family. After many interruptions and false starts, the perfect moment unfolds with a bird ’s-eye view of the town.
The Harvest Festival goes off without a hitch. Lucas performs a magic show that dazzles everyone, but his illusions are all good fun and not actual occult magic. He puts on his Governor hat and makes a shocking announcement that affects everyone in Hope Valley, especially Mayor Hickam, who is caught off guard by his announcement. The children release their gratitude lists in a rousing balloon launch. All the town’s efforts come together for a successful Harvest Festival, bringing good times to Hope Valley. As the episode ends, a long-lost face steps into the frame, saying, “It’s good to be home.” WHEN CALLS THE HEART fans will be on the edge of their seats in anticipation for the next season.
