Tim Tebow knows that he isn’t defined by his mistakes; he is defined by Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross.

“There have been so many times that I have lived in shame because I’m reminded by the enemy of my worst days, my worst thoughts, my worst actions,” Tebow told TBN. “I remember there’s been times when a mom or dad would say to me, ‘Hey, I just want you to know you’re our son or you’re our daughter’s role model,’ and I would think, ‘No, ma’am, no, sir, not if you knew me on my worst day.’”

He continued, “But then I also get to go back to scripture and remember that I’m no longer defined by my scars; I’m defined by His scars, and yes, I have messed up, and I have fallen short, but I also know that I’ve been covered by the blood of Jesus.”

Tebow continued with the truth that because of Jesus, he has been made right with God.

“I have been redeemed, and I have been reconciled, and I have been made right with the Father,” he said. “Our heavenly Father doesn’t call us by our sin. He calls us by our name and that we get to know that we are adopted into His family. When He sees us… He sees us through the blood of Jesus and what He has done for us, and we have been reconciled.”

He added, “What does reconciliation means? It means to be made right again. It’s more than just forgiveness. Reconciliation is that there would be no separation in your relationship.”

2 Corinthians 5:17-19 tells us this about reconciliation. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here! All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.”

Tebow frequently encourages others in faith. Recently on his Instagram, he asked his followers, “What are you willing to give up to become who God made you to be?”

“God has a version of you that is so much greater than the one fear and comfort have kept you from becoming,” he continued. “But getting there requires letting some things go. The question is, are you willing?”

Tebow’s message is an important reminder that when we partner with God and become who we are called to be, our shame is washed away, and we can live life in His fullness.
