5 Christian Celebrities that are Encouraging Young People to Wait Till Marriage

While many public figures often end up in the news for scandalous behavior, not everyone is doing it that way. Here are five celebrities who have publicly committed to remaining abstinent until they tie the knot:

1. Tim Tebow

Tim Tebow is no stranger to making headlines for his willingness to discuss his faith and how that impacts all areas of his life, including his choice to wait to have sex until marriage. While there have been rumors that past girlfriends have dumped him because of the vow to stay abstinent (such as ex-girlfriend Camilla Belle, and, more recently, actress Olivia Culpo), Tebow remains committed to his choice as a result of his faith in God.

Though some have criticized and questioned the now 28-year-old athlete’s decision since he first shared his commitment at age 21, Tebow has said in a 2012 interview that, “I haven’t changed. I just want to be a great role model … and with attention you can do a lot of positive things.”

Tebow has continued to stick with his decision to save himself for marriage.

2. Meagan Good

Actress Meagan Good and her husband DeVon Franklin haven’t been shy about their decision to wait until marriage. In fact, the couple wrote a book called The Wait, about just that. The book not only shares their story, but also offers advice for others who want to make the same commitment to purity.

“Obviously, we all know that it’s tough, but there were tricks that we learned that actually helped,” Good said in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel. “It was very different and it’s been amazing.”

3. Russell Wilson

The Seattle Seahawks quarterback and his now wife, singer Ciara, are another couple that has shared their commitment to abstinence.

“For me, I knew that God had brought me in her life to bless her and for her to bless me,” Wilson said during a July visit to The Rock Church. “We’re not going to be perfect, by any means, but He’s anointed both of us, and He’s calling for us to do something special.”

Wilson said that he felt God was calling him to lead Ciara, which led him to ask her, “What would you do if we took all that extra stuff off the table, and just did it Jesus’ way?’”

“Can we love each other without [sex]? If you can really love someone without that then you can really love somebody,” Wilson said.

4. Sadie Robertson

Duck Dynasty starlet Sadie Robertson has been open in her decision to remain a virgin until her wedding day, which she says boyfriend Blake Coward completely supports.

“And it’s something a couple really has to decide together,” Robertson said in an interview with US Weekly. “I don’t really date guys who don’t feel the same way. It’s going to be way harder if we went into a relationship having different opinions about that. So going into it, Blake felt the same way.”

Robertson has been candid in admitting that her faith hasn’t made the decision any easier.

“People are like, ‘It must be easy for you because you’re Christian.’ That doesn’t make it any easier for me,” she said.

However, she added that God being the priority in the relationship is what ultimately makes it possible: “Keep God at the top of the relationship, because if you keep God at the top things are probably going pretty good for you.”

5. Sean Lowe

Sean Lowe, the star of the 2013 season of The Bachelor, is yet another celebrity who decided to wait until marriage. While not a common decision for typical contestants on the show, Lowe said that the female contestants were aware of his values and that, “All three of them have the same values I have.”

Since then, Lowe has been open about the difficulty of balancing being on the show and with his faith in God.

Lowe married Catherine Giudici in January 2014, and the couple has shared about their decision to wait, and even took a polygraph on an episode of Jimmy Kimmel when he questioned their commitment.

“That’s now a part of my testimony,” Lowe said in a video for I Am Second. “I don’t know if anyone’s found Jesus through me talking about not having sex, but I think now it’s certainly more evident than ever that I love Jesus, and I’m different because I love Jesus.”
