Alveda King’s Message to Young People: ‘There’s a Purpose’

By Moveiguide® Contributor

In a culture of confusion and lies, Martin Luther King Jr.’s niece, Alveda King, wants young people to look to God for purpose and truth.

“I apologize to young people all the time, my grandchildren,” King told Movieguide®. “I said, ‘You know, I wish I had talked to you, I wish I had told you, I wish I explained. I’m here now, so, let’s let’s kind of talk and see where we are and see who you are. There’s a purpose, there’s a destiny.'”

“Everyone has a purpose. We were born to not necessarily be something special, although we are special to God, but to do something special,” she emphasized.

King’ wants to help young people ask the right questions and lead them on a path that points to truth.

She emphasized that the content kids come across on social media often teaches lies, leading them down dangerous paths like transgenderism.

“So, for instance, TikTok in America is trash,” King said. “It’s nothing. In other countries, they watch it, and they learn, and they grow, and I was speaking to someone the other day, and she says, ‘The things that you eat in your food are illegal in our country. We’re not going to do that to our bodies.'”

“So, I say, connect with the children, connect with the young people. Where there is confusion, let’s assure them and look for purpose and destiny,” she continued. “Doing procedures and things to kids who are young before their minds and souls and spirits have a chance to grow and catch up, probably is not a good idea. So, we should give them knowledge and information and love and encouragement. And as they begin to grow, they respond to that.”

King is also passionate about the pro-life community, using “her God-given talents and abilities to glorify God and uphold the sanctity of life from the womb to the tomb, and beyond.”

“Life is a human rights issue, a woman’s issue, a family issue, and a civil rights issue. But those in the womb need fair and equal representation,” she told Forbes.

Movieguide® previously reported on King:

Martin Luther King Jr.’s niece, Alveda King, spoke with Movieguide® about the American dream, how her faith informs her politics and why she has hope.

“My dream is very consistent with what Uncle ML [Martin Luther King Jr.] talked about the American dream,” she tells Movieguide®. “And he says, ‘I have a dream is rooted in the American dream.’ I am an American. And so I pray for myself, my family, my community, people at church, people that I work with, people in this nation, and then the whole world, that people will come to know the goodness of God.”

For King, part of that dream means using her gifts to help people discover their God-given design.

“So it’s part of my life as a Christian evangelist, and I write music, I sing, I produce, I do policy work. I’ve been elected to office. I’ve been appointed by two presidents. I’ve done many things—college professor—you name it. People say, ‘What can’t you do? What is it that you don’t do?’ Well, I don’t do math. Well, I’m terrible. I’m terrible at farming, gardening, all of that. But my dream is that people live out the life that God designed for them.”
