Angel Studios’ Upcoming Drama SIGHT Inspired by True Story

Angel Studios, the distributor of THE CHOSEN and SOUND OF FREEDOM, just added indie drama SIGHT to its 2024 lineup.

Starring Greg Kinnear and Terry Chen and “written and directed by Andrew Hyatt (THE BLIND), [the] pic tells the true story of Dr. Ming Wang (Chen), a Chinese immigrant who defied all odds to become a world-renowned eye surgeon in the United States,” Deadline reported on Friday. “Drawing upon the grit and determination he gained from a turbulent uprising in his upbringing, Dr. Wang set out to restore the sight of a blind orphan.”

The movie’s release date will coincide with Asian Heritage Month on May 24.

“Rarely have we seen the strength and resolve of Chinese-Americans shown in a powerful way on the big screen,” producer David Fischer said. “After spending years bringing SIGHT to life, Angel Studios is the perfect partner for audiences who want to be inspired by Dr. Wang’s story of hope, perseverance, and freedom.”

The Chief Distribution Officer of Angel Studios, Jared Geesey, shared that Angel Studios was attracted to the story of an everyday hero. The studio hopes that it will encourage and inspire those who see it.

The real Dr. Ming Wang, whom the movie is based on, excitedly shared the news of the release on his social media. “Great news everyone! Angel Studios will release the film, SIGHT! Thank you to all who have supported us in this journey,” he said.

Today’s Christian Entertainment added, “SIGHT stars Greg Kinnear (LITTLE MISS SUNSHINE, AS GOOD AS IT GETS), Terry Chen (ALMOST FAMOUS, FALLING), Fionnula Flanagan (LOST, DIVINE SECRETS OF THE YA-YA SISTERHOOD), Mia Swaminathan (KIM’S CONVENIENCE, BLUE’S CLUES), Jayden Zhang (SHANG-CHI AND THE LEGEND OF THE TEN RINGS), and Ben Wang (THE LAST O.G., MACGYVER).”
