On a mission to experience a little of what Jesus did, Bear Grylls spent 40 days in the same desert where Jesus fasted.

“After 40 days in the wilderness, Jesus was at his most parched, starving, beaten, and desperate. What he would’ve gone through is hard for me to even imagine,” he said of what he learned from the experience in an X thread. “And then, at his weakest moment, the devil came and tempted him with everything. To have all the kingdoms of the world at his feet.”

Grylls says everyone has been tempted, and those are very hard moments.

“Jesus knows what it’s like to be truly human and fragile and broken,” he said. “I don’t want to believe in a God that has never been tempted or gone through hard things or suffered. His struggle makes Him real.”

“At the end of these 40 days of brutal testing, he came out of the desert ready for the battle ahead. And what a battle it would be. NGU,” he finished.

In another social media post, Grylls explained that Jesus was a “savage warrior.”

“People think Jesus was meek and mild,” he explained. “But look at what He actually did — 40 days in the desert with nothing, facing temptation at His weakest, then eventually voluntarily walking into torture. That’s not meek.”

“That’s a warrior. We’re made in that image,” Grylls continued. “So don’t stand back from your battles.”

He encouraged his viewers to face their battles, standing tall like Jesus did.

He said, “Use your strength with humility and kindness, but be a warrior. The world doesn’t need timid hearts. It needs lion spirits.”

Grylls recently wrote a book about Jesus called The Greatest Story Ever Told.

He explained of the book, “I wanted to separate the real Jesus from the sanitised version I grew up with — the meek, mild, angelic one. The real Jesus was wild and full of laughter and mischief. Powerful, gentle, life-changing. This has been arguably my toughest journey but it’s been the most important one.”

His book is ranked #1 in History of Christianity Books on Amazon, #1 in Christian Church History Books and #1 in Jesus, the Gospels & Acts on Amazon’s Kindle Store.

Part of the book’s description reads, “He lived and died over 2,000 years ago, fulfilling expectations that existed long before his birth, mystically foretold by astrologers for hundreds of years-yet the rulers of his day dreaded his coming… In the years since, billions of people have dedicated their lives to this man and have testified to his divinity and truth. To others, he is little more than a rebel who was killed by one of the most brutal empires in human history.”

It’s available wherever books are sold.
