Pro surfer and mom of four Bethany Hamilton has found the meaning of life, a sweet yet true message she shared on Instagram.

“I’ve found the meaning of life…to love and to be loved!!!” she wrote over a video of her holding her surfboard as she runs to embrace her child. “Whoever needs to hear this… There is love for you too!”

In the caption, Hamilton added, “One of my most loved vids of the year 🥰 I love it too! I absolutely love being a mother. It’s brought me so much joy, purpose, and beauty in life. Of course, it has its challenges, but usually those are inward challenges… Ones that have grown me. God is faithful through it all!”

Amen to that 🙌💖” one person said. Another person added, “Soooo sweet!!! ❤️ Children are a gift from God!!😍”

Hamilton often reflects on the beauties and struggles of motherhood. The shark-attack survivor shares four children with her husband Adam Dirks: son Tobias, Wesley Phillip and Micah and daughter Alaya Dorothy.

“Motherhood is beautifully chaotic…Full of joy, noise, and grace,” she said in another Instagram post. “I’ve learned that being present means letting go of ‘perfect.’ Not letting go of responsibilities, just letting go of things going super smooth or perfectly being clean! Everyone feels more relaxed and less rushed or pressured that way.”

She concluded, “Anyway, four children in and things continually change! For any mamas reading this: you’re doing better than you think. 💛”

Hamilton rose to prominence after losing her arm in a shark attack in 2003 which inspired the Teddy Bear Award®-winning movie SOUL SURFER. She frequently uses her story to inspire others in their faith walks.

“The cool thing is it’s not about me at the end of the day,” Hamilton told Liberty University students last year. “It’s not about my success but more about what the Lord is doing through my life, through my willingness to adapt, to make the most of what I’ve got, to work through that five-wave set that feels unbearable at times,” she explained. “I want to encourage you to know that you too can adapt, you too can have a ripple effect, you too can allow God to work through your life and to make it something so beautiful and celebrate-worthy.”

What a powerful reminder that, though motherhood brings many challenges, it also transforms and brings so much love.
