Pro-Surfer Is ‘Dwelling on the Joy’ of Motherhood

While parts of parenting will always be hard, Bethany Hamilton shared that being a mom is such a joy and she would not trade it for anything in the world.

“I’ve been dwelling on the joy that I’ve been experiencing with these two littles in particular…Each and every day they bring a smile to my face and are often my ‘high’ of the day!” the pro surfer wrote on Instagram. “There’s always a rough moment or 5 in the day 🤣🤪😱 but man, they melt me with their cuteness all day long!”

Hamilton and her husband share four kids, ranging from 10 to under 2 years old. Though she has had even more trials as a parent than most, due to only having one arm, she always shares that being a mom is a blessing that she is extremely grateful for.

“When they are this young and have the wobbly head and need constant attention, nursing, diaper changes, tummy soothing, lots of sleep and of course, smiles, kisses and more. I use my feet to help with diaper changing, lots of pillows with nursing, a baby carrier all throughout the day and tricky styles of holding to keep baby’s head up,” she explained in 2021 when her third son, Micah, was still a baby.

While enjoying the blessings of motherhood, Hamilton has also been an outspoken pro-life advocate, calling for society to protect the unborn, rather than allowing abortion to end their lives. She has previously partnered with EveryLife, a company that provides baby products to those who cannot afford them, to help encourage people to choose life over death.

“In a world where the prevailing narrative devalues life, we know children are our greatest blessing — a gift, even. Full of wonder, curiosity, and boundless love, they have an extraordinary way of making our world better,” the company wrote. “That’s the very foundation of ‘Make More Babies.’ It may be a bold statement that challenges societal norms, but it’s who we are. It’s what we believe. And it’s where we stand.”

Hamilton has continued to spread this message, recently explaining how after becoming a mother, she could never imagine having an abortion.

“Now, as a mother of four, I just cannot imagine taking my own child’s life. It’s just the most devastating thought possible,” she said while speaking at the National Pro-Life Summit. “I recently lost a nephew. It was the worst thing I have ever experienced. And so I can really empathize with these women though. After they take their baby’s life, they’re going to live with that for the rest of their life.”

“I have a sibling up in heaven and I can’t wait to meet them at some point. But that was God’s plan for my mom’s life. She has to live with that for the rest of her life,” Hamilton continued. “And you know, she’s getting to the end of time, but she is the most incredible mother. She’s the most incredible grandma, and it’s just so beautiful to see how God has changed her life.”

It is encouraging to see Hamilton use the platform God has given her to spread joy and positivity, while encouraging others to seek parenthood, rather than run from it.
