Brad Arnold, the lead vocalist for Grammy-nominated band 3 Doors Down, trusts God as he battles cancer.
He began a recent Instagram post with a quote from Catholic writer Thomas Merton: “What am I? I am myself a word spoken by God. Can God speak a word that does not have any meaning?”
“We were formed with the same breath, indeed with the same force that formed all that we’ve ever known, all that is,” Arnold wrote in the caption. “We were…..YOU WERE formed with the same attention to detail and individuality that was given to the oceans above and the oceans below.”
He urged his followers to never doubt that God gave them a purpose: to worship Him. Arnold added, “Put God first instead of your feelings, even your well-being, and watch God’s purpose for your life spring to life.”
He then shared an update about his cancer diagnosis, saying, “I’m doin’ great, fam!”
Arnold announced his clear cell renal carcinoma diagnosis on May 7. It’s a type of kidney cancer.
“I had been sick a couple of weeks ago and went to the hospital and got checked out, and actually got the diagnosis that I had clear cell renal carcinoma that had metastasized into my lung,” he said in a video posted to Instagram at the time. “It’s stage 4, and that’s not real good.”
But he said that he wasn’t “scared of it at all” because he serves “mighty God” who “can overcome anything.”
God has been faithful, and in Arnold’s recent update, he said, “Almost every day, I feel a little better.”
“Things seem to be going great. Thank you for every prayer you all have prayed. With so much faith behind me and my own faith within me, I have no doubt of the outcome of this fight,” he concluded. “God will continue to fight this battle for me… and God doesn’t fail. I love y’all!”
3 Doors Down’s song “It’s Not My Time” has become Arnold’s anthem as he continues his battle. The first verse and chorus read:
Looking back at the beginning of this
And how life was
Just you and me lovin’ all of our friends
Living life like an ocean
But now the current’s only pulling me down
It’s getting harder to breathe
It won’t be too long and I’ll be going under
Can you save me from this?‘Cause it’s not my time, I’m not going
There’s a fear in me, it’s not showing
This could be the end of me
And everything I know
Ooh, but I won’t go
“Thank you for all the memories so far. Now, I believe ‘ITS NOT MY TIME’ is really my song. This’ll be a battle so we need our prayers warriors! Thank y’all for being the best fans in the world. We love y’all!” Arnold said on Instagram.
Continue to keep Arnold in your prayers as he trusts God through his cancer journey.
