Brandon Lake Wants to ‘Lay the Glory at [God’s] Altar’
By Movieguide® Contributor
Christian artist Brandon Lake feels a “heavy responsibility” in his music career.
“I think it gets weighty,” he said during an appearance on “The George Janko Show.” “But the gift, though, of doing this and laboring through it and making sure that it’s biblically sound…I didn’t go to seminary, and so a lot of times, I even feel unworthy. Like, ‘God, how could I possibly be a pen [and] express these scriptures in a fresh way, or a way that’s relevant to our culture nowadays?’”
Lake explained that he never knows “where the next song’s going to come from.”
“I just am trying to be open, just stay open, and somehow God just drops things in my spirit,” he said, adding, “I think it’s a good weight because it’s a heavy responsibility.”
Lake continued, “That is crazy to me, that God would allow me to be part of something that would change people’s lives in any way, and I think that’s what keeps me doing it.”
He also emphasized the importance of giving the glory to God, especially when he’s performing to thousands of cheering fans every night on tour.
“I’ve just tried to come back to that visual of, like, ‘God, anytime somebody hands me glory, I want to be so quick to lay it at your altar, put it to your feet, [and] give it back to you,’” Lake shared. “So that I stay in a healthy place so that I can continue to do what I’m doing and not get burned out.”
Lake also spoke about his ongoing concert tour, “Summer Worship Nights,” which features friend and fellow musician Phil Wickham.
“We started it last year,” he said. “This is year two and we thought it couldn’t get better than last year. This year has been insane. Thousands of people have placed their faith in the Lord.”
Lake and Wickham are close, both on and off the stage.

Their tour was recorded for the recent concert documentary FOR THE ONE, which premiered earlier this fall.
“I hope the stories encountered through this movie show everyone watching how much they are loved by the One.” Wickham said in a press release about the project. “I can’t wait to share this with the world and I hope people are encouraged by it.”

Lake also has new music coming out. A recent Instagram post announced his latest single, “Hard Fought Hallelujah.”
“Your incredible response has made it impossible to hold this one back,” he wrote to fans. “So many people are walking through hard times right now, and I believe this song can bring hope and encouragement. Together, we can spread the hope of God’s faithfulness no matter what we’re facing.”
