Can AI Be Used to Honor God? Experts Weigh In

As AI use becomes more widespread, many Christians are exploring how it can be used to strengthen and share their faith.
“Rather than debating [the morals of AI], I would say, ‘Can we redeem it for the glory of God?’” Andre Echevarria, head of U.S. digital strategies at Cru, a ministry formerly known as Campus Crusade for Christ, told Faithwire. “And that’s actually what we’re doing here. We’re using a lot of that technology to be able to actually help people discover a relationship with Jesus, go deeper in their relationship with Jesus, or maybe even share their current relationship with Jesus with their neighbors.”
Echevarria shared stories he had heard from people who used AI and social media to explore Christianity and develop a relationship with God.
“We’re able to use AI to find more people…and then be able to put our offers and messages of hope in front of them,” he said. “So we’re using the AI built into some of our advertising platforms to be able to find more people that we can actually share the gospel with.”
Echevarria also spoke about the ways AI can be used to translate books “into 60, 70, 80 languages on demand in minutes rather than months and years is a huge advantage for how we’re accelerating a ministry.”
“AI doesn’t have a story,” he concluded. “We have a story, and that story God continues to write.”
A piece from the Christian Chronicle discussed the topic of translation further, with minister James Nored sharing his experiences using AI for his STORY OF REDEMPTION movie series.
“Most of our languages for our STORY OF REDEMPTION series have been done by humans and professional translators, who are often assisted by AI tools,” Nored said. “And we have found some really great, talented people to do voiceovers.”
He pointed to a specific project, a video with Albanian subtitles that needed to be reworked for a group of blind people.
“We had the video series with subtitles, but that obviously would not be very helpful for this people group,” Nored explained. “We were able to quickly produce an AI-generated Albanian voiceover, and it worked well.”

A church in Switzerland experimented with AI to give people a more personal connection with Jesus. A digital version of Jesus took confession from churchgoers.
“Many people came to talk with him,” chapel theologian Marco Schmid told TODAY. “There were young people, older people — people really talked with him in a serious way. Topics like relationships, love, topics like about God, they ask him what to do.”
