Christian artist Danny Gokey wants you to hold onto faith no matter what.
“How do you look at your trials?” he began a video posted to Instagram. “Now I have a song called ‘Only for a Moment’ out of the scripture verse in 2 Corinthians 4:17.”
The verse reads, “For a light affliction which is but for a moment is working in us a far greater glory that you can’t even recognize.”
Gokey then offered a perspective shift. We are not victims that things happen “to”; rather, we are children of God whom things happen “for.”
“This is happening not to you; it’s happening for you. And I want this song to encourage you. Let’s see what the remedy is here,” he continued.
“Right in the scripture, verse 18, it says ‘So we don’t look at the things that are seen, but we look at the things that are eternal,’” Gokey added. “We focus our eyes on Jesus, we focus on his word.”
There are so many voices today vying for our attention. Whether in the news, social media or everyday life, situations try to steal our faith.
Instead, Gokey says we “need voices of faith. I’m hoping that the song ‘Only For a Moment’ …builds your faith and it gets you on the path to finish the race, to pass the test, counting it all joy, because it’s building out faith. And it’s working for us a greater glory.”
He then encouraged fans to listen not only to his music but to any music that encourages and builds faith.
“If it’s not my music, listen to someone else’s music, but get faith inside of you so that you can run your race…when we get in heaven, you’re gonna say, ‘It was so worth it, that little momentary affliction worked out for this great glory. I’m glad I went through what I went through because God did an amazing thing and he worked it for my good,'” he concluded.
He also announced that he released several new versions of “Only for a Moment,” hoping that it will encourage listeners to grow in faith.
Gokey recently released his fifth album, titled Sound of Heaven, and will begin his tour April 10.
“This project was really unique,” he said of the album. “As it turns out, it’s the reflection of all the different sides of me. It’s, you know, very celebratory but…it starts with a prayer, like ‘Lord, what do you want to write through me?’ Because God is the greatest songwriter of all time. He’s the greatest artist of all time. We’re His children, so I’m thinking, like, I’m going right to the source.”
