DANCING WITH THE STARS judge Derek Hough updated fans on his wife, Hayley Erbert Hough, after she experienced a cranial hematoma in December 2023.

“It’s been a couple of years since her health incident,” he told E! News this month. “We actually are currently right now editing this documentary that we shot. We just have all this amazing footage from the show, from her recovery, from the process, and just realized that it was a beautiful story.”

Less than four months into their marriage in 2023, Hayley was performing on stage one night when she suddenly became disoriented. At the hospital, the doctors discovered blood in her skull that put pressure on her brain, PEOPLE reported.

She had to have emergency surgery, and part of her skull was removed. Weeks later, she had surgery to have a skull implant.

“Her recovery process has been nothing short of a miracle,” Hough said a week after her accident.

In February 2024, the couple gave an update on their socials.

“It’s been quite the journey,” Hayley began. “There’s been so much that has happened in two months. Lots of emotions.”

“It’s been wild,” Derek said. “The highest of highs to the lowest of lows. But, I have to say, throughout this experience, this woman has been unbelievable in her perseverance and her acceptance of the whole situation. Her strength, it’s been remarkable to witness.”

Derek also told E! News that he hopes to have kids with Hayley.

“We definitely want a family for sure,” he said.

Hough just started a convention competition with his sister called Ovation, and Erbert will be a part of it.

“I love coaching. And I love mentoring.” He said of Ovation, “We’re only doing seven dates the first year starting in December.”

Hough is still pumped about DTWS, which will feature wildlife conservationist Robert Irwin, sibling of Bindi Irwin, who won the competition 10 years ago.

“I’m stoked. It’s crazy. I can’t believe it’s been 10 years, a decade since Bindi Irwin was on the show and we won it together and it was honestly one of the greatest honors of my life was was coaching her,” he said.

“So to see Robert here and be a part of the show 10 years later…mind-boggling.”

DWTS will also star influencer Alix Earle, GMA reported.

The show’s 34th Season will premiere this fall, per TV Insider. ABC hasn’t announced the release date yet, but said it will come on every Tuesday at 8 p.m.
