Food Network’s Duff Goldman Thanks God for Surviving Crash with Drunk Driver

By Movieguide® Contributor

Food Network star Duff Goldman is thankful to God after surviving a crash involving a drunk driver.

The pastry chef took to Instagram to share about the terrifying event that almost took his life.

“On my way home from the airport I was thinking about what kind of cake I was going to make for my daughter[‘]s birthday. Next thing I knew I bleeding and surrounded by airbags,” Goldman said.

“A drunk driver had swerved into my lane on a windy country road,” he continued. “After doing a systems check and finding that my only injury was to my hand I thanked my lucky stars that I’d still be there to celebrate her third birthday even if I couldn’t make her cake.”

“I’m fine, but it’s gonna be a long road to recovery, and for someone like me who makes a living with my hands you can imagine that this is no joke,” he added.

“There’s no excuse for driving drunk. None. Uber, taxi, call a friend. No excuse. Stay safe friends, count your blessings. If you’re drinking don’t drive, and if you’re driving, don’t drink,” Goldman concluded.

Goldman shared more details of the accident in an interview with PEOPLE.

“I live on a really windy, canyon road in the Santa Monica Mountains, and this guy just came around this corner way too fast. He was already totally in our lane and just smashed into us,” he said.

“I was just like, ‘Thank God, thank God.’ Even as I was sitting there dealing with it, I was like, ‘I’m still here.’”

Although he made it out alive, his hand was left injured.

“It definitely doesn’t work,” Goldman said of his hand. “And I need it to, because that’s all I got.”

He added that he was “pretty angry” when he realized the other driver was intoxicated.

“My daughter almost didn’t have a dad because this guy was stupid,” he told PEOPLE. “There’s so many ways to get to where you need to go at the touch of a button, you can get a ride to anywhere you need to go. There’s just no excuse.”

Goldman shares daughter Josephine, 3, with wife Joanna.

“I’ve been hugging my family a lot. I think they’re getting sick of it,” he said, laughing. “I just keep saying like, ‘Come here. Give me a hug real fast.”

Duff Goldman is best known for his roles in multiple Food Network shows, including ACE OF CAKES, DUFF TAKES THE CAKE and KIDS BAKING CHAMPIONSHIP.
