Freshman QB Says God’s ‘Perfect’ Timing Brought Him to This School

Dylan Raiola is the new freshman quarterback for the Nebraska Cornhuskers, a position that carries on his family’s legacy and demonstrates God’s plan.

“His dad is a Cornhusker legend, and his uncle, Donovan, is the team’s offensive line coach,” Sports Spectrum reported. “Even so, it was far from certain that Dylan would follow in his father’s footsteps. He was originally committed to Ohio State and then flipped to Georgia.”

However, Raiola still didn’t feel right about his commitment to Georgia.

It wasn’t until late December of 2023 that he changed his mind once again and chose Nebraska.

“It didn’t feel real at the time, if I’m being honest,” Dylan said in an interview with 247 Sports. “To be able to sit there and tell [Rhule] I want to be part of this and I believe in what he’s doing — it got emotional with my mom, dad, brother, my uncle was in there as well. You can tell it’s the perfect fit. It happened at the right time, and God’s time is perfect.”

Dominic, Raiola’s dad, revealed to ESPN what it was that changed Dylan’s heart.

“I’ll tell you what changed in his heart,” Dominic said. “He knew he had a different kind of talent. He told us: ‘God has bigger plans for me than just going to Georgia and being the next five-star and being in line to win the national title. God has different plans for me.’ And those plans were to go to Nebraska and do something hard.”

In his first two games, the quarterback has led the Cornhuskers to a 2-0 start.

In the match-up against UTEP, Raiola “showed the world what Nebraska coaches and players have seen from the five-star signee since January: elite arm talent, excellent poise, extreme potential. Raiola threw for 238 yards and two memorable touchdowns while calmly guiding his team to a 40-7 rout. Wide receiver Jahmal Banks said Raiola’s ‘killer mentality’ was on full display in his debut,” ESPN reported.
